Personality[]

4758-811715772 (1)

Biu Yuyun has a cocky but curious demeanor. In a notable contrast to Chang, he has no respect for Balalaika, calling her a "Russian battleaxe" and commending Chang for the way he allegedly manipulated her. Biu admitted that at first he did not understand why their boss elevated someone like Chang to a position of power in the Triad, referring to him as a "dirty cop who killed his partners." However, after seeing how Chang handled Rock and the situation with Roberta in the OVA, he was convinced of his ability.[2]

History[]

El Baile de la muerte / Roberta's Blood Trail[]

When rumor spread throughout Roanapur regarding Roberta's return to the city, Biu and other Triad gangsters traveled to the brothel upstairs in the Yellow Flag for information, but none of the prostitutes saw anything, so they leave.[3] After the Colombians attacked the Yellow Flag in their failed attempt to interrogate Fabiola Iglesias, Biu went to Chang and informed him of the attack. Chang discussed the background of Roberta's first rampage in Roanapur while Biu confirmed that Roberta's recent motivation was the murder of her master. With that information, Chang knew that they needed to pinpoint the identity of Roberta's enemy. Despite Chang's worry, Biu responded that the Triad at least had knowledge of everyone present in the city, but Chang stated that Roberta's enemy was likely well hidden since their goal was not recognition or money but because they had great capabilities and strength. Chang told Biu to come with him on a walk to gather better information, so Biu accompanied him.[4]

While Chang talked with Garcia Lovelace inside Sankan Palace Hotel, Biu waited outside for him in a car. After Chang finished, Biu drove Chang back to his office and asked him if Rock would act, and Chang confidently answered that he would, telling him that Roberta's enemies were professional soldiers.[5] Later at the Hot River Film Company building during the fighting between Grey Fox soldiers and Roberta, Biu waited for Chang to finish a call with someone. After finishing the call, Chang tossed the phone to Biu, who informed Chang that they received word from Shue Yan, who reasoned to the Triad that inspections of the controlled territories were essential to contain the effects of Khun Sa's "surrender." He asked Chang if he should have contacted Khun Sa directly, but Chang declined, commenting that the surrender was a farce anyway and they needed him to continue living quietly in Yangon. Biu then wondered about the "hound," and Chang answered that he just got a call from Rock about the Lagoon Company agreeing to ship Grey Fox out of Roanapur into the Golden Triangle. Biu in turn stated that he was working on getting the message to Roberta but was unsure if she could catch up to the Americans.

Smiling, Chang joked that Biu was worrying too much and would get gray hair by pondering too much on the Vysotniki's plans. Biu smilingly shrugged his shoulders and clarified that he was just doing his job. Still curious, he wondered if Balalaika would keep her promise of their temporary alliance, but Chang smoked a cigarette and remarked that it did not matter if Balalaika caused enough trouble for them that Roanapur fell since they could set up shop somewhere else and duke it out with Hotel Moscow. Squatting, Biu smiled back and declared that he finally saw why their leader chose Chang to lead their branch, repeating that Chang was a gutsy ex-cop who let his friends die at a port. In turn, Chang responded that he was not gutsy and simply was able to enjoy things for how they were, concluding that he needed to check his remaining cards on the table.[6]

Shaitane Badi[]

In the first light novel, Chang had survived an attempt on his life by several mercenaries in the seas of Southeast Asia, and he returned to Roanapur the next morning. While the Lagoon Company tried to gather information on the surviving mercenaries' whereabouts, Biu stood in Chang's office and informed the leader that his men got credible info concerning the enemies' hideout. Accordingly, he said that his men were ready to move on Chang's orders, but Chang advised against it, reasoning that the Lagoon Company could make up for accidentally abetting the assassins earlier by taking on the hideout for the Triad instead.[7]

Later after the raid failed and two assassins quit the job, Shadow Falcon visited the Hot River Film Company building in an attempt to kill Chang. Disguising himself as Rock, Falcon thought that his disguise worked, but Biu and everyone else in the building were ordered by Chang to let any strange men, such as Falcon, enter the building. In his office, Chang played along and informed Falcon that he was a master ninja who would spare his life, letting him become a Triad affiliate. After Falcon left and Chang finished a call with the Triad boss Zhuang Dai-Long, Biu Yuyun asked his Elder Brother Chang if he could send Falcon to Hong Kong in good faith, but Chang replied that he could not let Shenhua kill Falcon, adding that it would be a while until Shenhua calmed down from her fight with Falcon. Additionally, Chang also revealed to Biu that Falcon was a customer of OMC, a business run by the Triad's New York branch, and bought all the company's ninja items, which were created during the kung fu cinema boom in Bruce Lee's time. As the two Chinese men joked with one another, Chang affirmed to Biu that he would let Hotel Moscow deal with Stanislav, one of the men who tried to kill him on the Triad tanker.[8]
