Going to the Roanapur port, Gretel brings Eda at gunpoint to the Lagoon Company, telling them that she wants a getaway party to escape the city. Although fine with the $150,000 job despite her history, Dutch tells the young girl that she needs to surrender her weapon and give up Eda in perfect health, which she agrees to without hesitation. Sailing on the Black Lagoon, Rock watches Gretel in the hold while Revy hangs out in the communications room. In the bridge, Benny and Dutch are surprised at Gretel's beautiful singing voice as she sings to Rock, who claps in response to her performance of "Midnight, the Stars and You."

The ex-salaryman asks the young girl where she learned the song, and she chuckles that she heard the song on television. Sitting on Rock's lap to his discomfort, Gretel tells him that she can tell that he is a good person, saying that she can spot a good person when she sees one. Calling Dutch, Balalaika asks him if he knows what he is doing, and Dutch replies that he is not a philanthropist and does not hate Balalaika, clarifying that he is only transporting Gretel for the money. Finishing the call, Balalaika warns him that she has set up obstacles for him and will not let Gretel live, and he sharply hangs up. In her office, she then asks Boris if he thinks her plans to stop the Lagoon Company's path will proceed smoothly, and he responds that they may overdo it. Deciding to engage in another plan, she orders Boris to contact their "E-item" on their trouble list.

Looking at his dashboard, Dutch sees that the Vietnamese Navy is nearby and is blocking their drop-off point on Hainan Island, remarking that Hotel Moscow has the reach to bribe the corrupt Vietnamese government to stop them. Benny wonders if they can evade them, but Dutch reminds him that they are a torpedo boat against a navy ship with missiles. He asks Benny what plans he has, and he recommends going to Melody Lee in Brunei, but Dutch replies that plan will get them killed too. Benny then recommends that "Bighorn" Elroy in Pangkalpinang is a top-notch escape provider, to which Dutch agrees. Sitting opposite of Rock, Gretel complains about how she cannot see the ocean despite traveling overseas.

Rock apologizes for requiring her to stay inside the boat, and he asks her if she has ever seen the sea. Recalling her gloomy childhood, Gretel comments that she only saw grey walls in her childhood when she grew up in a Sicilian orphanage, adding that she was born in a small village in the Carpathian Mountains. Speaking casually, Gretel states that she was always surrounded by blood and darkness while being abused by old men, saying that some nights she could not stop urinating blood. Thinking about her fate, Gretel asks why God made her and her brother suffer. As Rock shows discomfort at the story, she sits on his lap again and concludes that her abuse is just how life works, claiming that killing is the way that people survive. Curious, Rock asks her if she feels sad that her brother died. In response, she takes off her wig to look like Hänsel, explaining that the siblings are always together and that they enjoy murder and the smell of blood.

Crying at hearing her story, Rock hugs Gretel and urges her to see that life is better than she thinks, assuring her that evil is only a small part of life. Calmly pushing Rock away, Gretel tells him that it is okay, thanking him for being so nice to her. To thank him, Gretel lifts up her dress to reveal her genitals, shocking Rock, who immediately leaves the hold and exits onto the boat's deck. Seeing Rock's uneasy face, Revy tells Benny to check on him while she deals with the kid, punching Gretel onto the ground. As Revy pulls out a folding chair, Gretel laughs and claims that she and Revy are cut from the same murderous cloth, but Revy does not care and tells her to shut up and not bother Rock again. On deck, Rock cries out loud that evil people had turned Gretel into a monster, but Benny responds that sometimes they should look the other way. Angered by his response, Rock grabs Benny by the collar, but Benny reminds him that they cannot take care of the child nor can they undo the horrible abuse done to her, and the saddened Rock accepts the situation.

Finally disembarking at a dock in Pangkalpinang, Dutch greets Elroy, who sees Gretel and informs Dutch that he has a passport ready for her. Before she leaves, Gretel thanks Rock for his company and recommends that they eat a meal together sometime, to which Rock agrees. Suddenly, Elroy pulls out his handgun and immediately shoots Gretel, shocking Rock. Looking up at the sky with blood dripping down her face, Gretel compliments the sky's beauty and falls dead. Accepting the outcome, Dutch rhetorically asks Elroy if he is done doing escape work, and the old man answers that Hotel Moscow paid him well and that he cannot believe that his 34 year old son in South Africa has cancer, bidding Dutch goodbye. Seeing the dead girl, Dutch orders Rock to get a tarp to cover her corpse, but the solemn Rock answers that it is not necessary since she should look up at the sky in her final moments.
