Bren the Black Death (ブレン・ザ・"ブラックデス" Buren za "Burakku Desu") is the leader of a murder-for-hire business in Roanapur. Despite his business being based in Roanapur, he rarely resides in the city. Bren only appears in the manga.
Appearance[]
Bren is a tall man with a dark-colored, full curtain beard, a tall build, and pale skin. He wears a black bolero hat, circular sunglasses, and a large light-colored overcoat over a dark outfit.
History[]
El Baile de la muerte[]
When Roberta returned to Roanapur, she used Bren's services to provide a shield for her against the Grey Fox soldiers, so he had Richie Leroy act as his intermediary to communicate with the maid. For once, Bren went to Roanapur with his assistant Filano accompanying him. On a rooftop, Filano spied on the hotels that the Grey Fox squads were staying in while Bren explained to him that he did not actually use any men contracted under him given the job circumstances, instead finding gunmen on the streets. He elaborated that he gave a plan to the men to storm the building but intentionally did not include details to retreat, purposefully wanting them to die as fodder.[1]
When the time arrived, Filano contacted Bugsy Lance, one of the main hitmen, to begin the assault. Soon, several of the hitmen stormed the building but were easily killed by the American soldiers, with Bren observing silently while Filano remarked that they fulfilled their role of distracting the Grey Fox unit.[2] When Bugsy survived the ordeal, he returned to Bren to talk with him, but Filano killed him by tripping him off the rooftop, with Bren killing the remaining surviving hitmen by shooting their bodies, and the two men left after finishing the job.[3]
The Wired Red Wild Card[]
Rico mentioned to Rock and Feng Yifei that the assassin group known as the Quartet worked for Bren the Black Death.[4] One Quartet member, Montero, mentioned that he and his brothers needed Bren's permission to make further negotiations with their client.[5]
New Girl in the Hood[]
Revy commented to Dutch that it was a pain that they had to use Bren's help for their job.[6]
El réquiem de los Desalmados[]
When Gris el Tigris of Los Eses planned on going to war with Hotel Moscow as well as Roanapur's other crime syndicates if the latter groups aided the Russians, the crime syndicates quickly sought out extra help via hired guns. According to Revy, it was rumored that soldiers under Bren were in high demand due to their skills.[7]
