Burt Gummer (バート・ガンマー Bāto Ganmā) is a survivalist and prepper in the Deep South. When his daughter Angela ran away after convincing Enos II of the Enos family to give her $500,000, Gummer became saddened and coped with the loss by believing that the Enos family betrayed and tortured Angela to death and fed the pieces of her corpse to crocodiles. As a result, he began a decade-long feud with the Enos family, who had also wanted to take away his forest property to clear the trees and build a resort.
Appearance[]
Gummer is an adult Caucasian-American man with a tall and large build, pale skin, a thick full-face beard, thick eyebrows, and long blond hair. He wears a dark beanie, a dark bulletproof vest over a white shirt, dark-colored jeans, and dark-colored shoes.
Personality[]
Gummer has been described by those who know of him as someone who has always been unpredictable. Nevertheless, he became even more angry and irate when his daughter ran away, even genuinely believing that she was murdered instead of her real story. Being paranoid of other people who are not his family, he is a survivalist and has fortified his property in different ways. Gummer is skilled with firearms and possesses a large collection, including several pistols, a revolver, a pump-action Winchester shotgun, an M60E3 machine gun, an M1 Garand rifle, an FN FNC assault rifle, a Colt rifle with a three-prong flash hider, and a few other rifles. He is a Christian of an unknown denomination, and he speaks with a Southern U.S. accent.
Eda Initial Stage history[]
In the Deep South in Lakeside, the Gummer family has owned a large portion of the local forest for generations.[1] Throughout his property, Gummer has deployed many bombs and tripwires surrounding his lone cabin to deter trespassers, and he and his late wife built an underground escape tunnel as part of their survivalism.[2] Furthermore, he has a large supply of ammunition and a cache of various firearms. In contrast to his huge prepper supplies and his heavy reinforcements of his cabin and property, Gummer owns an unmodified 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible.
It is unknown when or how his wife passed away. As he raised Angela, he encouraged her to spar with him[1] and taught her how to use firearms, with the FN FNC rifle in particular being Angela's favorite.[2] As a teenager, his daughter cried because the cheerleader outfit that he gave her was too small for her large build. Before her disappearance, Angela happily celebrated her 18th birthday with Burt. In the 1980s, the Enos family wanted to take Gummer's woodlands property to build a resort with leisure facilities. At the same time, Angela pretended to fall in love with Enos II so that she could convince him to steal $500,000 for her, which he did. Once receiving the money, Angela tied up Enos II to a fence and left the Deep South for good to live a better life. Learning about his daughter's disappearance, Burt was enraged and believed that the Enos family had tortured her to death and then fed pieces of her body to crocodiles. In town, he began going on a rampage day after day at various businesses, resulting in him being banned from the various establishments. Over the next ten years, Gummer feuded with the Enos family, with the latter failing to get ahold of his land.[1]
A Savage Place[]
Leaving his property, Gummer drove to a local diner where the Enos family was confronting Eda and Amber because the former woman had flipped them off while driving. Speeding up, he rammed his Ford Fairlane into the gangster who was about to further injure Eda. Standing on top of his car with two handguns, Gummer insulted the Enos family and asked them if they were messing with a young woman again. Noting that he saw them commit sins, he proclaimed that he would stop them. Annoyed, the enforcer Needham warned him to leave because the fight was none of his business, but Gummer retorted that he could not be told what to do and shot at them, prompting the gangsters to fire back. When he ran out of bullets, he quickly pulled out an M60E3 machine gun and began firing artillery at them, forcing them to take cover. During the commotion, Eda attempted to take advantage of the distraction and crawl away, but Gummer jumped down and ordered her to quickly get in the vehicle. Although she tried to question him, he leaned forward and squinted at her face. To his shock, Gummer believed that she was Angela and was amazed that she was supposedly still alive. Immediately, he began driving away from the scene.[3]
On the way back to his cabin, Eda was terrified and tried to wriggle her way out of the car, so Gummer punched her to knock her unconscious. In the woodlands, he parked his car and carried the unconscious woman over his shoulder as he entered his cabin, tossing her onto the floor. Waking up after she hit her head, Eda yelled at the prepper and berated him for hitting her very hard back in the car. Gummer replied that she was being too violent, reasoning that he could not drive safely if she did not behave herself. Shouting that she was going back home, Eda tried to storm off, but he grabbed her arm and asked her where she would go, reminding her that she was already at home. Angered, she asserted that she was not his daughter. Relieved, Gummer professed his happiness that "Angela" had returned home, confessing that his life without her was no better than a "rat living in a shit-covered drain." Suddenly, Eda punched him in the face, knocking him onto the ground. Seconds later, Gummer stood back up and joked that Angela was still the same as ever, saying that she was stubborn and quick with her hands. Declaring that she needed to be punished, he uppercut her, knocking her to the ground. Even more angry, Eda responded that she had had enough of the delirious old man and wanted to leave. Laughing and grinning, Gummer commented that she was truly his daughter given her rash attitude.
Restraining the struggling Eda, Gummer recalled that they were in the middle of war with the Enos family. Recounting how Angela's beauty put Marilyn Monroe to shame, Gummer relayed to Eda the story of Angela being tortured to death and eaten by crocodiles. Putting Eda in a chokehold, he cursed the Enos family and promised that, as her father, he would avenge her. When she tried to attack him again, Gummer threw her onto the floor and joked that she was still not capable of defeating him. Trying to get up, Eda rhetorically asked him how she was supposed to be his daughter if she was eaten by crocodiles. Not listening to her, Gummer happily expressed his excitement that his daughter had come back from heaven in order to make him happy. Angrily yelling back, Eda stood up and glaringly rejected his notion, retorting that Angela was dead. Punching her in the face, he smiled and stated that Angela had been revived, comparing it to a reenactment of Jesus Christ's resurrection. Gummer began slapping her repeatedly and then clasped his hands together in prayer, thanking God for the miracle of Angela's supposed resurrection. When he opened his eyes, he was surprised to see the almost unconscious Eda with the top left part of her dress ripped off, commenting that her dress was immodest.
Subsequently, he put a cheerleader uniform on the unconscious woman. When she soon woke up, Eda was mortified upon noticing her change of clothing, insulting Gummer as a pervert and asking what he did to her while she was passed out. Smirking, the prepper recalled how she previously cried when she received the outfit because of the slight difference in size, admitting that he was happy the uniform finally fit her well. Immediately, Eda insulted him as a colorblind old man and swung her foot at his head. Blocking her and grabbing her leg, Gummer replied that she was not putting enough weight with her move, flipping her body onto a pile of framed pictures. Stretching his arms, he grinned and asked her if she would give up, taunting that she had become weak. Grabbing a framed photograph, she threw it at him, but he reflexively caught it. Standing up, she rhetorically asked him who the woman was, further denying that she was Angela.
With a solemn face, Gummer became confused and wondered why she could not remember, claiming that the photograph was of him and her on her 18th birthday. Poking the photograph, Eda yelled that she and Angela did not look alike by even a millimeter, asking the old man if his optic nerves were connected. Squinting at her, he answered that she was just like herself no matter how she looked at it, believing that her mind was dim as a result of returning to earth from heaven. Completely stressed out by his behavior, Eda attempted to punch Gummer, but he blocked her once more and observed that her punches were not as strong as before. She repeatedly cursed him and threw several punches to no avail. Catching one punch, Gummer threw her onto her back, then confessing that he was glad he was able to spar with her again. He encouraged her to keep on trying until the next morning, but the exhausted Eda laid down and quietly called out for Amber in stressful despair.[1]
As they continued fighting, Gummer and Eda heard a loud explosion caused by an Enos family gangster driving his car over an explosive-rigged tripwire. Seeing the smoke, Gummer insults the dead men as trash, commenting that people keep entering his land without permission. Unknown to him, the Enos family decided to raid the woodland property because Enos II also thought that Angela was alive per Gummer's claim and wanted to exterminate Angela. Opening his large firearm armory, the prepper proclaimed that he would give the gangsters as much firepower as they wanted "until the word damnation [was] etched into the wrinkles of their scattered brains." To Eda's surprise, Gummer tossed her an FN FNC assault rifle, reminding her that it was "her" favorite gun. Preparing some shotgun shells, he even encouraged her to use as much ammunition as she wanted since they would not run out. Suddenly, several Enos family gangsters began opening fire on the front of the cabin, forcing the two to take cover from the barrage of bullets. One of the gunmen taunted Gummer by joking that he would mince up his body and feed it to the crocodiles at the family's mansion. Hearing them, Eda shot at them and retorted that they were the ones who would become mincemeat.
When Gummer shot at them with his shotgun, the men yelled that they would be glad to kill him and get the $5,000 bonus from Enos II's bounty. Assessing that there were too many enemies, Eda asked the survivalist what he would do to counter them. Pulling out a detonator, Gummer pressed it, blowing up the area beneath the first few gunmen and killing them. Smirking, he decided to use more explosives, detonating more bombs that sent a couple of more gunmen flying. When more gangsters tried to charge the cabin, Eda shot at them, killing two men in the process. At the same time, a submachine gun-wielding gangster jumped through the window, but Gummer greeted him with the barrel of his shotgun, sternly telling the kid that he would give him "a non-stop ticket ta hell." Shooting the man in the chest, the prepper joked that he should have used the front door when entering someone's house. Two more gangsters barged through the front door, so Gummer ran to the side while Eda covered for him using suppressive fire. Although she killed one man, she ran out of bullets, dismaying her. Seeing the surviving gangster pointing his gun at her, Gummer shot the man in his abdomen, knocking him down. Tossing a magazine to Eda, he reminded her that he always told her to check the number of bullets she had left. Immediately, more bullets flew through the window, causing Gummer to immediately use his detonator again, blowing up more men outside.
Going to the second floor of the cabin, Gummer let Eda sneak attack the next few gangsters who attempted to break into the cabin. He waited silently as Eda used a smoke round and managed to kill all three men before they could land a shot on her. As Eda hung upside down with her flopped skirt exposing her underwear, Gummer complimented her good work. Embarrassed and getting up, she warned him not to look at her crotch. Scoffing at the claim, he responded that he was not like devilish men who have a degrading view of their own daughters. He offered the FN rifle back to her, but she chimed that she would rather have two pistols because the FN FNC was hard to handle. When Eda began walking down the stairs, a thug from outside fired a grenade into the cabin, which started a fire. Though she panicked, Gummer assured her that they could escape, revealing a hidden tunnel beneath the wooden floor. He ordered her to get in quickly, and he headed in first. Eda asked Gummer if he dug the tunnel all by himself, to which he confirmed that it was a joint project with his late wife. She also asked where it led out to. Emerging from the ground, Gummer claimed that they had reached the end. At that spot, Amber and the deputy sheriff Crocker also saw them, mutually surprising each other.
Shocked at seeing Gummer, Crocker tried pulling out his revolver, but Amber pleaded with him to halt since Eda was her friend. Gummer expressed confusion about Crocker's presence, but he was interrupted by Amber bursting into laughter upon seeing Eda dressed in a cheerleader uniform. Baffled at seeing Amber laugh so hard, Gummer quietly asked Eda if she was her friend, but the latter denied it. Demanding an explanation, Crocker asked the survivalist what was going on, making Gummer reply that the Enos gangsters were always causing trouble. The deputy sheriff wondered if Angela had truly returned from what he heard, and the ecstatic Gummer confirmed and headlocked Eda, showing her to him. The perplexed Crocker asked him how that happened, to which the prepper explained that Angela was blessed by the angels in heaven. As the struggling Eda pleaded with Crocker to tell Gummer otherwise, they were interrupted by the remaining mercenaries shooting at them. Grabbing the giggling Amber, Eda ran for cover as the other two men also took cover. Behind Eda, a female assassin attempted to stab her, but the former dodged her attacked and headlocked her onto the ground. Seeing his supposed daughter in trouble, Gummer shot at the assassin, forcing her back. Hearing Eda's comment about how the attacker seemed different from the other gangsters due to her skill, the survivalist expressed surprise that the Enos family hired mercenaries. As Gummer tried to cover Eda, Crocker pressed his revolver against the prepper's back and shot him.[2]
Shocked, Gummer was uninjured because of his bulletproof vest. Anrgy and still standing tall, he turned around and pushed Crocker against a tree, wrestling to disarm him. The furious Gummer demanded to know who was calling the shots. Struggling, the deputy sheriff admitted that he was surprised that Gummer had not seen the full picture, asking him if he had any brains left. Thinking that Crocker was a lackey of Enos II, Gummer angrily asked him if he really collaborated with the Enos family. Scoffing at the notion, Crocker denied the allegation, homophobically retorting that he would never work for the family's "f-----" leader. Hearing someone behind him, Gummer turned his head to see a male assassin charging at him, so he shoved Crocker's neck against the tree, knocking him out. He grabbed the attacker's fist and glared at him, subsequently wrestling with him. Wrapping his arms around the mercenary's neck, Gummer declared that the man was one hundred years too old to challenge him to a fight, then cracking his neck and killing him. As the prepper looked down on him and wiped his face, J.J.'s car rushed at him from behind, knocking Gummer into the air and into unconsciousness.
Needham then tied Gummer's hands behind his back and placed him on his back on the ground. Being guided out of the car, Enos II kicked Gummer and ordered the "hulk bastard" to wake up. Commenting that it had been a while, Enos II asked Gummer where Angela was. Becoming excited, Gummer answered that he still could not believe that his daughter had come back, claiming that she had likely already created a bloodbath out of his mercenaries. He even added that it was almost like a dream because his daughter had come back to life after being killed by the Enos family. Unknown to them, Eda had indeed shot and killed the remaining two assassins who failed to injure her. Yelling at him, Enos II repeated that Angela was not dead because she ran away after stealing his family's money and breaking his heart. Not listening to a word, Gummer thanked God for bringing his daughter back. Furious with his stubbornness, Enos II declared that he was done for. Standing next to Enos II and pulling out his pistol, Needham stared down at Gummer and remarked that their long-time feud was finally over.
As Enos II said that all that they had to do was find Angela, Needham moved his pistol toward him and shot Enos II in the head, killing him. Laughing at his dead boss, Needham joked that the young man did not see that coming. He shouted that he would not let a good-for-nothing and gutless person like him take over the family that he built with his predecessor while they both drank muddy water. Needham then gloated that from then on, he and Crocker would run things smoothly. Hearing the entire tirade, Gummer noted that he was the mastermind all along, surprising the gangster. The prepper began to wriggle back and forth and, quickly getting up, broke free of his hand binds. As Gummer charged him and grabbed his collar and arm, Needham cursed the former's family for being the bane of his problems. To Needham's shock, Gummer lifted his whole body above his shoulders. Trying to break free, the irate gangster warned Gummer to let go of him, shooting a couple of bullets near his feet in the process. Using all his strength, the prepper threw Needham against an adjacent tree, injuring him and knocking him unconscious.
Upon defeating Needham, Crocker, and the various gangsters and mercenaries, Gummer raised his fists in the air and roared victoriously. As he continues happily cheering, the infuriated Eda, who had just learned from Amber about the real circumstances behind Angela's disappearance, demanded to know why he lied to her all along. Happy to see her, Gummer commended her fighting and called her "Angela," causing Eda to deny once again that she was his daughter. She angrily advised him to get that fact into his thick skull, but the happy survivalist only replied that her gun skills had improved so much. He posited that it was a wonderful gift from God, but Eda remarked that she did not care.[4] It is unknown if Burt Gummer is still feuding with Needham and Crocker after the Enos family's forces were diminished.
