Plot[]

Late at night close to dawn, Sawyer the Cleaner eats at an outdoor table next to several food stalls nearby, and at one stall Shenhua orders porridge, youtiao, and a soy latte. Going to the table with her tray of food, she sees Sawyer, saying their meeting is a coincidence. Changing her thought, Shenhua remarks that it may not be a coincidence to find a place to have a meal close to dawn, asking Sawyer if she is off work. Stating that she has finished a job, Shenhua also asks Sawyer what she is eating, looking at her food and seeing scones and black tea but her smile fades upon seeing Sawyer's offal. Commenting that she cannot smile when Sawyer is eating offal, Shenhua asks her if the food is actually good. Although silent for a bit, Sawyer makes a huge smile, surprising Shenhua since she does not often smile. Shenhua then talks about how hard her last job was, which involved disposing of a cult leader who was in hiding.

As Sawyer continues eating and Shenhua talks about putting food into her stomach, they hear Rock ordering a warm cup of green tea with a bowl of rice and pickled mustard greens (pak gad dong). Walking with his tray of food, Rock sees the two women and moves to another table, awkwardly saying hello from afar. Shenhua waves to him, telling him to come to their table and not sit so far away. Subsequently, Rock stands up and brings his food, and Shenhua says he is welcome unless the "slut" is also with him, but he assures her that Revy is asleep. As he pours his tea and gobbles down his bowl of rice, the tattered-shirt Rock talks about how there was a commotion over some cargo that resulted in a shootout. While Shenhua and Sawyer are put off by his stress, the former admits to Rock that she is sometimes off put at the way Japanese people eat. In response, Rock replies that he abandoned Japan but confesses he has a temptation for chazuke, whereas Revy herself dislikes it.

As Rock and Shenhua agree about the noisy night they both had, Sawyer overhears Lotton ordering eggs and bacon in his usual nonsensical manner, wanting his black coffee "like the dark night of a new moon." Going to the table, Lotton is surprised to see everyone, pushing his glasses up and sitting down at a table adjacent to them. Shenhua asks if he has had a long night as well, and Lotton responds that he had a hard fight but did not win, clarifying that he had to dodge a jet-black blade many times and counter it with the stroke of a lightning bolt. Realizing that Lotton is talking about a video game instead of work, Shenhua calmly asks Sawyer if she was playing video games with Lotton, and the girl denies it by shaking her head. She turns to Lotton and asks him whom he played games with, giving him an angry smile and asking if he invited someone to her place without permission, making Lotton sweat from nervousness. Stopping her glare, Shenhua sighs and remarks that she does not have the energy to interrogate him anymore, warning Lotton that he must explain himself later.

As the four eat, they hear gunshots to their surprise, but seconds later as the gunshots continue, they nonchalantly resume eating. Shenhua herself comments that gunshots are not surprising anyway since it is Roanapur and the noises are merely a neighborhood annoyance. Shenhua teases Lotton by asking what he meant by his coffee request of a "dark night of a new moon," but the gunshots cease, grabbing everyone's attention. Nearby, Shenhua notices Rico at the food stand carrying a rifle, and the priest orders a ham sandwich and honey latte, remarking that he is exhausted after a long night. Once he gets his food, he sees that Rock, Sawyer, Shenhua and Lotton are also dining there, asking them if they are having a party. As Rico tells them that there were a lot of "nonbelievers" who rushed to the Rip-Off Church that previous night and he preached with his "sis," he sees their confused faces and asks them what is wrong. Seeing that Rock does not recognize him, Rico reminds him that he is with the Rip-Off Church, making the embarrassed Rock pretend to finally recognize him.

Rico begins to sweat nervously as he feels insulted, but Rock assures him that he meant no offense toward the apprentice priest and invites him to sit down with them. In contrast, Shenhua nonchalantly states that she has never heard of him, surprising Rico. While he sits down at a table adjacent to theirs, Rock asks him if he was involved in the shooting that they heard minutes ago. Rico answers that it was simply "missionary work," adding that it was also noisy the previous night. Rock and Shenhua agree that they are not fond of working overtime and way late at night, and Rico replies that he likewise just wants food and sleep. As they continue to eat, several armed men arrive at the restaurant, yelling at everyone to give up their money.

None of the five are fazed by the robbers' presence and they do not want to fight them either after their long night. As the robbers display confusion at the customers' unconcern regarding their armed presence, Shenhua convinces Sawyer to fight them by offering to buy her almond tofu, an egg roll, and Brazilian cheese bread. Finishing her drink, Sawyer pulls out her chainsaw and puts on a war face, scaring the robbers. Grabbing Lotton by his collar and dragging him along, Sawyer prepares to kill the robbers as Shenhua happily advises her to have fun and clean up if she makes a mess.
