Additionally, Crocker is a homophobic person.[2]

Eda Initial Stage history[]

In Lakeside, over the course of one decade, the Enos crime family feuded with Burt Gummer for control of the latter's woodlands property in order to build a large resort. At the same time, Deputy Sheriff Crocker wanted to put a stop to the feud, but his superior, Sheriff Archer, refused to interfere in the armed conflict due to his passivity.[1] Frustrated with the sheriff's noninterference in the criminal feud, Crocker made an alliance with Needham, an Enos family enforcer, to get rid of both Gummer and the crime family's leader, Enos II, so that the violence would stop. For their deal, Needham would be permitted to build his resort in exchange for backing Crocker's authority.[2]

A Savage Place[]

When Eda was abducted by Burt Gummer during a gunfight between the latter and the Enos family, Amber Whinberry visited the sheriff's office to demand that the lawmen find and rescue her. She then spoke to Sheriff Archer about it, and he nonchalantly assured her that he knew who abducted Eda and where she was taken to. Accordingly, Crocker was called by the sheriff into his office and ordered to guide Amber to Gummer's house, reasoning that he could not do so because he was busy with all of his work. Subsequently, the two began to head to Gummer's house, with the deputy sheriff remarking to Amber that the sheriff did not want to move a step from his chair to help them. He also told her that the sheriff had no intention of solving the feud between the Enos family and Gummer, causing Amber to guess that the sheriff might be taking bribes from the Enos family. Crocker responded that if the sheriff were a clever man, then he would not give it a second look.

As he drove, he continued insulting the sheriff for lacking the guts to intervene, additionally lambasting him for being a paper pusher. Suddenly remembering something, Crocker interrupted Amber's assessment of the sheriff and yelled out that the sheriff's position in town had been passed down through generations of the Archer family. Stating that the "bean sprout" was only sheriff due to his familial relation, the irate deputy sheriff shouted that a sheriff needed neither a bloodline nor an intelligent brain but rather, the skill to push criminals into a corner with or without a fight. Crocker resumed monologuing that he would kill Gummer and bring order to the town with an iron fist, making the tired Amber remark that he talked too much.[1]

As the two arrived at the border of the property, Crocker was confused at Amber ordering him to stop the car. He tried to talk but she warned him to shut up, realizing that there were traps up ahead. Subsequently, Crocker and Amber walked into the forest, and they soon heard a few explosions throughout the property as the Enos family began their attack on Gummer's cabin. Baffled at the situation, he wondered from where Gummer even acquired explosives. Though Amber criticized him for his poor situational assessment, he asked her how she knew about the traps. She merely answered that it was her main job, also stating that Gummer was a jerk for setting up the explosives. Standing next to a tree, Amber suggested to the deputy sheriff that they go on foot. Hearing a beep from his car radio, Crocker asked her to wait a second. Taking his radiophone, the deputy sheriff confirmed to the caller, Needham, that he was near the cabin and requested him to take care of things on his end.

As the siege continued, Crocker hid behind some bushes with Amber and warned her that they might be blown up by the explosive traps too if they stayed put. Nevertheless, Amber replied that charging into a shack that was being attacked by gangsters was not a good idea either. They then walked to another part of the forest, and as they walked toward a particular spot, Gummer suddenly emerged from his escape tunnel right in front of them, startling them. Shocked at seeing him, Crocker pulled out his revolver to shoot, causing Amber to plead with him to hold his fire since her friend Eda was with him. Gummer was confused about Crocker's presence, and the latter likewise was baffled at seeing Eda as well as Amber laughing uncontrollably. Demanding an explanation, Crocker asked him what was going on, making Gummer reply that the Enos gangsters were always causing trouble. The deputy sheriff wondered if Angela, Gummer's daughter, had truly returned, and the ecstatic Gummer, who convinced himself that Eda was Angela back from the dead, confirmed and head locked Eda, showing her to him.

The perplexed Crocker asked him how that happened, to which the prepper explained that Angela was blessed by the angels in heaven. Exhausted, Eda despairingly pleaded with Crocker to tell him otherwise since he would not listen to her. Before the deputy sheriff could state something, they were interrupted by the remaining mercenaries shooting at them. As Eda fought with a female assassin, Crocker stood behind Gummer as the latter attempted to aid his "daughter." Smirking, the deputy sheriff claimed to Gummer that he had something to say. When the prepper asked what he wanted, Crocker sarcastically bid him goodbye and shot him in the back at point-blank range.[3]

Eda Initial Stage chapter 15

Crocker is shocked that Gummer wears a bulletproof vest

Immediately, he was shocked that Gummer was unharmed because his vest was bulletproof. He attempted to fire another shot, but Gummer grabbed his neck and shoved him back, shouting that he would not be beaten. Pinned against a tree, Crocker tried to regain control of his revolver as the angered Gummer demanded to know who was calling the shots. Struggling, the deputy sheriff admitted that he was surprised that Gummer had not seen the full picture, asking him if he had any brains left. Thinking that Crocker was a lackey of Enos II, Gummer angrily asked him if he really collaborated with the Enos family. Scoffing at the notion, Crocker denied the allegation, homophobically retorting that he would never work for their leader. Hearing someone behind him, Gummer turned his head to see a male assassin charging at him, so he shoved Crocker's neck against the tree, knocking him out. As the deputy sheriff remained unconscious, Needham attempted and failed to kill Gummer, professing that he and Crocker wanted to rule over the town.[2]
