Corporal Daniil (Russian: Капрал Даниил; Japanese: ダニール伍長 Danīru gochō) is an ex-Soviet Airborne Forces soldier who fought in the Soviet-Afghan War as a paratrooper and later joined Hotel Moscow under Balalaika's command. He serves in a combat role in the Vysotniki.
Appearance[]
Daniil is a Russian man with a skinny build, pale skin, a pencil-thin mustache, and short, messy blond hair. He is usually seen wearing a green military uniform and a blue-white telnyashka. He has been seen using several firearms in his missions, including a Dragunov sniper rifle, a tripod-mounted NSV heavy machine gun, and a VSS Vintorez sniper rifle.
History[]
Chase for ring-ding ships[]
Only in the anime adaptation, it was shown that Daniil and other Hotel Moscow gangsters captured Donnie Yen and brought him tied up to Balalaika's office for abetting Chen's failed plan to kill the Lagoon Company. For the execution, Daniil restrained Donnie while Lazar shot him in the head.[1]
Bloodsport Fairy tale[]
When Balalaika deployed the Vysotniki throughout Roanapur to hunt down Hänsel and Gretel, Daniil was placed in Jodorowsky's unit. During the phase where the soldiers forced the twin children to take a certain path, Balalaika and Boris heard an unknown gunshot near her position, so Vysotniki in the vicinity rushed to the area to see if it was a stray bounty hunter. Standing in the back of a truck armed with a heavy machine gun, Daniil prepared to shoot at whomever was interfering. Once Jodorowsky stopped the car to block the alleyway entrance, Daniil opened fire on Eda and Revy to force them out of the way since the two women wanted to kill the children for the bounty on their heads. In a short period, Gretel disappeared, so Daniil continued with Jodorowsky's team toward the final location, intentionally luring Hänsel with their car to a park. The subsequent morning, Daniil stood on a faraway rooftop with Boris and Lazar armed with a Dragunov sniper rifle. In Balalaika's confrontation of Hänsel, Daniil kept watch while Lazar quickly shot Hänsel in the knee and hand, immobilizing the boy and causing him to bleed to death. The two men remained silent but vigilant as Balalaika confirmed to Boris that she was done on her end, completing the mission.[2]
Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise[]
Sometime later, Daniil and the Vysotniki accompanied Balalaika to Japan to aid Hotel Moscow's Japanese branch, which was dwindling under Vasili Laptev's poor leadership. After Laptev's assassination and the Washimine Group's betrayal against Balalaika, Daniil was ordered by Boris and Balalaika to kill Washimine Group enforcers in the early hours of the next morning. Accordingly, he with his team positioned themselves on a rooftop near a Washimine Group hideout. Using a sniper rifle, Daniil skillfully killed Takeshi Ogami and his men and then returned to base on the Marya Zaleska, afterward evading police using electric company vans.[3] Soon, he and other Russians waited on their ship while Balalaika murdered Masami Kōsa, the head of the Kōsa Council. On deck, he was glad to see Balalaika, seconds later letting out an enthusiastic cheer and high-fiving Eugene when she declared that they would finally return to Roanapur.[4]
