Das Wieder Erstehen Des Adlers Part 1, also called Chapter 5, is the sixth chapter of the Black Lagoon manga. It was originally released in August 2002.
Plot[]
During World War II on March 25, 1945 in the Indian Ocean, the Nazi U-boat U-234 is hit with depth charges by an Allied ship, making it sink to the bottom of the ocean. In the boat's rear compartment, the sailors there notify everyone else that their room is being flooded and that they will lose oxygen rapidly, advising them to seal off the rest of the boat. The boat's captain, Wentzel H. Ahbe, informs his Kriegsmarine crew that they only have a couple of hours to live and relieves them of their military duties. Going to another room to speak to the passenger Spielberger, a lieutenant colonel in Nazi Germany's Schutzstaffel, Ahbe informs him that they will not surface again. Angered, Spielberger asks Ahbe if he knows the importance of the painting The Twelve Knights Led by Brunhilda that the former is carrying. He elaborates that Lt. Gen. Lackenbauer of the SD ordered him to take the painting, which was made by August Janke during Hitler's reign.
As Spielberger triumphantly states that the painting holds importance to the Nazis rising again after the war's end, Ahbe in turn asks him if he is even thinking about his family, criticizing Spielberger for not even thinking about his family in his dying moments. When Ahbe states that he is glad that his own family will not have to grow up under the Third Reich, Spielberger furiously warns him to shut up and pulls out a pistol, shooting Ahbe dead. 50 years later in the same area, Rock laments that he had to open his mouth about his one-time experience of scuba diving, but Revy tells him to quit whining. In the communications room of the Black Lagoon, Benny briefs everyone about the U-234's history and how there is a painting inside the bottom of the boat. Dutch then clarifies that their client is a Spanish antiques-dealer who collects Nazi artwork and is paying them well to salvage the boat since a French telecommunications company recently discovered the ship wreckage and several countries are disputing the water's territory.
After Benny explains how Revy and Rock will enter and exit the U-boat, the two don their scuba gear and their tracking beacons, and they dive tens of meters below and find the U-boat. Meanwhile back on deck, Benny notices a large ship in the distance, so Dutch radios to them that he is with the Thai Navy, but the distant ship suddenly stops communications. On the ship White Heather, a man informs his leader about how the boat is not military, so the man orders him to fire at the Black Lagoon. As Dutch starts the PT boat's engines, Benny continues surveilling through his binoculars and sees the enemy sailors prepare TOW missiles, terrifying him. Consequently, Dutch quickly steers the boat away as missiles chase them and Benny hangs on for dear life, and the neo-Nazis mock the PT boat crew for trying to interfere in their mission.
