El Baile de la muerte Part 23, also called Chapter 66, is the sixty-seventh chapter of the Black Lagoon manga. It was originally released in August 2008.

Summary[]

Hearing from another Grey Fox team that Roberta is still pursuing, Ray asks Caxton what they should do. Caxton radios to the team to split into three groups and retreat back to the objective rally point, ordering them not to kill her. As Sanchez and Horner wonder how they can escort the frightened Garcia out of the area, the boy notices a pistol on the ground. Grabbing the gun, Garcia mutters to himself that Roberta would be okay if Grey Fox had not murdered his father. Noticing the boy aiming the pistol at Caxton, Horner jumps at him and immediately disarms him. Sanchez in turn points his pistol at the kid, but Caxton orders him to stand down. Caxton asks the boy about his history, and Garcia cries that his soldiers ruined his and Roberta's lives.

When Caxton still displays attentive confusion, Garcia reminds the soldiers that they (accidentally) killed his father with a bombing during their operation in Venezuela, shocking them. Consoling Garcia, Caxton replies that he has no way to apologize to him and that he did not decide whether or not the operation was right. Elaborating, the major says that he will not make excuses for actions and agrees that Garcia has the right to revenge, handing his pistol to Garcia and accepting responsibility for Diego's murder. In a flashback, Diego shows Garcia a photograph that the boy can only interpret as a picture of someone hunting in a forest. As Roberta serves them drinks, Garcia thinks that the worker Emilio lied to him, making his father calmly advise him not to judge somebody so quickly as a liar.

Examining the photo himself, Diego points to several animals in the photo and Garcia is surprised to see Jesus Christ in the photo. Diego explains that he had looked at the photo from only one perspective and thus could not see the animals or Jesus. Back in the present, Diego's words echo in Caxton's reply that the boy should think hard and decide for himself if he can carry out revenge after seeing things from more than one perspective.

Notes[]

  • In this chapter, Garcia claims that the bombing in Barinas happened in October, but in previous chapters (El Baile de la muerte Parts 7 & 9), the bombing was stated to have occurred in September.
