Emily Thompson (エミリー・トンプスン Emirī Tonpusun) is a rookie police officer of the Metropolitan Police Service and colleague of Jerry Smith. With Eda's help, the two officers were assigned to foil the Advanced IRA's terrorist plot in the United Kingdom.

Appearance[]

Emily is a young British woman with a skinny build, long dark hair tied into a short ponytail with wisps, pale skin, and cheek freckles. She wears a dark-colored suit and pants, a light-colored dress shirt, a dark necktie, and black shoes. She carries a pistol for a weapon.

Personality[]

Emily is a firm adherent to following police procedures in contrast to those who use rough or unorthodox methods when interacting with criminal suspects. She has excellent marksmanship as shown when she accurately shot a man who was on a faraway rooftop with only a pistol.

Eda Initial Stage history[]

Before becoming an officer of Greater London's Metropolitan Police Service, Emily graduated at the top of her class at the police academy.[1] Two of her friends from the academy, Mabel and Sadie, were slain by one of the Advanced IRA's bombings, causing her to have a personal grudge against the extremist group.[2]

Our Day Will Come[]

Two years after her classmates' murders, the British government discovered that the Advanced IRA acquired Stinger missiles. Accordingly, Emily and her colleague Jerry Smith were assigned by their police director at New Scotland Yard to use their informants connected to the Advanced IRA to aid in their operation. Additionally, the Met agreed to let the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency join them as a pursuit team, so Eda came to London to help out the two officers. At an airport in London, Emily and Jerry waited for the CIA agent's arrival at the terminal. The two officers introduced themselves and reiterated their goal to retrieve the Stinger missiles. Eda was amused as to why a young woman like Emily was working for Scotland Yard, prompting Jerry to vouch that she was an excellent detective.

Getting into their car, Jerry likewise claimed he was surprised at Eda's youth given their important case. Nonetheless, he clarified that his surprise was a compliment. When Eda asked if they had any leads, Emily answered that they had an informant with a good lead but asserted that they had to return to police headquarters and speak with the director first. Thinking the visit would be unnecessary, Eda recommended that they meet with the informant first. Disagreeing, Emily retorted that she could not do whatever she wanted, but the CIA agent rhetorically asked her if she understood the Stinger missiles could easily be used in a terrorist attack in just one or two days. Subsequently, the three of them went to the informant, who was immediately pushed to the ground by Eda. Grabbing the scared man, Eda demands to know what he knows about the Advanced IRA's secret weapons ring's shipment from the United States. Jerry ordered her to stop, but she asserted that they were in a hurry, slapping the informant and threatening to injure him further if he refused to talk.

Afterward, although the two officers wanted Eda to remain with them, the CIA agent discreetly swiped Jerry's car keys and headed to the site in Gravesend the informant told them about. Emily and Jerry quickly returned to police headquarters, where their director chastised them for being tricked. Yelling again, the director ordered them to get moving because they already knew where Eda was headed, adding that they needed to seize both the CIA agent and the illicit weapons. On the way to stop her, Jerry drove and compared Eda to a pompous Joan of Arc, though Emily instead compared her to the American outlaw Belle Starr. As they hurried to the container yard, Emily wondered if they would make it in time, making Jerry tell her not to be so pessimistic. To their shock, she saw the smoke from the explosion resulting from an Advanced IRA fighter's grenade detonating near oil drums. Arriving outside the port area with other police officers, the speechless Emily watched Eda emerge from the scene.[1]

After the incident, the three of them returned to the informant as Eda interrogated him a second time, much to Emily's chagrin. To his surprise, Eda pulled out her pistol and stuck it against the man's head, causing him to immediately confess he learned his information from Chester Shankly, an extremist who frequented the pub Whelan's in Watford. Terrified at the escalation, Emily lambasted Eda for her methods, to which the CIA agent asked what they wanted. Frustrated, the policewoman declared that they would accompany her to the pub and not allow her to leave their sight. In Watford, as they entered the pub, Chester was shocked to see them and immediately ran out the back door, giving his identity away to the agents. Right as she exited the back door, Emily was forced to take cover when Cillian McGrath, the Advanced IRA's second-in-command, and his men opened fire. Realizing that it was an ambush, Eda asked the two officers to give her suppressive fire.

Acting fast, Emily covered for her as she shot at a couple of them. Spotting a gunman on a far away roof behind the CIA agent, Emily warned her and killed the terrorist with a single shot, surprising the unaware Eda. The CIA agent began to wonder where Cillian was upon not seeing him hide behind a van anymore. As Eda and Cillian clashed, the policewoman helped defeat the remaining extremists and turned her attention to Cillian, ordering him to freeze. Refusing to do so, Cillian bid goodbye to them and ran to a fence, which he jumped over. Though Emily took aim at him, Eda blocked her line of sight and rhetorically asked what she was thinking. Angered, Emily yelled that she could have killed him, an action which Eda criticizes because they needed such a high-ranking person alive to get information and discover where the Stinger missiles were. Emily demanded to know what information she even wanted, to which Eda stated it was none of her business.

Being asked why she cared about killing Cillian, she shouted that Cillian and the Advanced IRA's leader, Michael Connolly, have killed a lot of people, including her colleagues Mabel and Sadie. Scoffing at her motivation, Eda bluntly told her that she should not try to play hero and let personal vengeance blind her mission. Although Jerry advised Emily to calm down, he also criticized the "Yankee" for being out of line. A short period later at a different pub, Emily, Jerry and Eda got some drinks. Returning to the table with one for herself, Emily asked what Eda and Jerry were talking about, with Jerry relaying to her that Eda disliked her. Not offended, Emily retorted that she was not trying to be liked, asserting that she could not let Eda mess up their investigation any further, especially because she was a member of the Stinger tracking team. Impatient with both officers, Eda mentioned that she merely wanted to get her job over with so that she could go to the Padres game in her home country.

After the American left the pub, the baffled Emily wondered why she was acting weird while Jerry was confused about her drinking habits. He posited that Eda and the CIA might have another agenda other than tracking the Stinger. Not concerned, Emily commented that their primary focus was to stop the Advanced IRA terrorists. The next day, Emily and her two associates departed from New Scotland Yard, with Eda complaining that the former's meetings with police superiors seemed to be a waste of time. Although she acknowledged it was true, she warned Eda to follow their office rules. At that point, the CIA agent spotted a suspicious man exiting their car, startling him. Eda grabbed Emily and Jerry and yelled at them to get down, ducking as the car bomb detonated. As the smoke quickly cleared, Eda got up and pursued the fleeing perpetrator.

Shielding Emily, Jerry got up and asked if she was all right. She confirmed but admitted that her ear hurt, and they saw Eda up ahead. The two officers walked up to her to help her out after she disarmed the man, and she casually confirmed that the man, Morton, was indeed an Advanced IRA member. Alleging that Morton was merely a diversion, she relayed to the police officers that the Advanced IRA's next attack would supposedly happen at an air force base with the Stinger missiles involved. The impressed Emily wondered how she got that info, to which Eda claimed that the attacker was just a blabbermouth. The officers joked that he was quite the cooperative bomber, but Eda asked them to forget their sarcasm and prepare to depart. Confused, the two officers agreed but were left bewildered at the ordeal.[3]

In a quick response, the British government had the air base halt all takeoffs and landings, also giving the police and military time to mobilize against a potential attack. Jerry drove for the three officers to raid the hideout, with Emily recalling that the location had to be within a four kilometer radius of the base since that distance was the Stinger missiles' range. To her surprise, Eda admitted she knew the precise location, a few kilometers south of the air base, and reasoned that she kept it secret due to having her own motivation for stopping the bombing. Soon driving into a neighborhood, Jerry asked Eda if they were close to the destination. Hearing her confirmation, Emily noted that the number of houses narrowed down their search field. Eda spotted the house and pointed out that it was most likely the place given that it faced the base, their window was open, and an unusual minivan was parked in the driveway. Though the CIA agent ordered Emily to run the minivan's license plate, Jerry professed that it would be unnecessary since he recognized the area code being Liverpool.

Agreeing that was suspicious enough, Eda suggested that they pull around the street corner and split into two groups. As they walked up to the house, Emily and Jerry agreed to take the front while Eda snuck around the back. At the front door, Jerry knocked but received no response, so Emily grasped onto the doorknob. Immediately, the Advanced IRA extremists shot a barrage of bullets through the door, forcing the officers to take cover. Inside, meanwhile, Eda and Cillian quickly clashed, causing the latter to urge his leader Michael Connolly to escape. Michael jumped out the window and onto the ground, but Jerry spotted him as he began fleeing. Jerry adamantly ordered Emily to pursue him despite her hesitancy so that he did not escape. Beginning to tail him, both Emily and Michael exchanged gunfire with one another, with the former yelling that she would not let him flee.

She exchanged more gunfire with him as she took cover behind a tree. Soon, he ran out of ammunition after insulting her as a "Black and Tan girl." Before he could reload, Emily shot him once in the chest, knocking him down. Glaring at Michael, she told him that two years ago, one of his bombings killed two of her best friends from the police academy. Not regretful, Michael proclaimed that he would send her to hell and lifted his pistol. Acting fast, he pulled the trigger and only managed to graze Emily's left cheek, whereas she simultaneously shot him once in the head, killing him and muttering that he was the only one who would go to hell. After Jerry killed the remaining extremists, Emily entered the house and confirmed she killed Michael, making the two agree that their fight was over. In the other room, they heard a single gunshot which was Cillian killing himself to prevent Eda from interrogating him. Rushing into the room, Emily was disgusted to see the man's corpse, though her mission was complete and she avenged her friends' deaths.[2]

IRISHMAN in N.Y.[]

Once the mission to foil the Advanced IRA had ended, Emily and other Met Police leaders met up to discuss further action because the gun runners who gave weapons to the group were still at large. In the meeting, Emily emphasized that the Met's cooperation with the CIA was officially over after they prevented the attack. For her final briefing, she relayed to Eda that Chloe Reddington, the wife of the Advanced IRA's leader, received international calls from the United States, making the CIA agent realize the Irish woman was the point of contact between the Irish and American extremists. Confirming her suspicion, the policewoman stated that Cillian McGrath's Stinger missile smuggling operation was just an exception. Emily added that no one outside of those involved knew about Michael Connolly's death, including Chloe. Informing Eda of her next step, she clarified that they would pose as Michael Connolly's messenger to Chloe and then contact the American smuggling ring by posing as Chloe.

On the day of Eda's mission to pose as Chloe, Emily and Jerry waited in a van nearby. She wondered if she would be all right. Jerry teased her for her lack of confidence in Eda, which Emily angrily denied. At that point, they saw Eda returning to the van, and to their surprise she informed them that she got a meeting set up in New York. Scoffing at Emily, Eda stated that she received proper training in negotiations and thus did not have a problem completing her job. Afterward, the three headed to an airport for Eda's departure from London. Emily sincerely thanked Eda for everything and professed she was glad they thwarted the airbase attack and effectively destroyed the Advanced IRA. Before bidding the police officers goodbye, Eda claimed she had a present for Emily and put a piece of paper in her chest pocket. Unwrapping the paper, Emily was puzzled upon seeing the "present" was Eda's expired ticket to the interleague game between the Padres and Angels.[4]
