Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise Part 16, also called Chapter 37, is the thirty-eighth chapter of the Black Lagoon manga. It was originally released in September 2005.

Summary[]

Beginning her fight with Ginji Matsuzaki, the gunslinger Revy shoots several times, but Ginji evades her gunfire and even slices apart one bullet. Charging at her, Ginji performs a downward swing with his katana, forcing Revy to block his blade with her Cutlass pistols. In seconds, the downward force pushes Revy back, and the two reciprocate grins at one another, with Ginji commenting that they are truly both cut from the same bloody cloth. As the two fighters prepare their weapons again, Rock and Yukio watch while the former softly tells Yukio that he thought she would have taken Balalaika's advice to run away with Ginji. As Rock tells her that his perspective in the figurative twilight helps him see her decision, Ginji cuts through one of Revy's pistols, dismantling it.

Ginji hears Yukio say that she is fighting to survive, and he suddenly remembers Yukio lamenting about how she and Ginji could have opened a festival booth. Smiling, Revy mocks Ginji for thinking he could live after the battle, saying that criminals like themselves only walk toward death. Immediately, Ginji stabs Revy in the knee as she uses her remaining pistol to shoot Ginji, shocking him as he falls to the side and dies. Running to Revy, Rock attempts to pull out the katana from her knee as she commends Rock for his and Yukio's words taking Ginji off guard. As Rock pulls out the sword and throws it to the side, Revy screams in incredible pain, and Rock tries to comfort her by stopping the bleeding. Behind them, they notice the silent but gloomy Yukio look at Ginji's lifeless body.

Rock puts Revy's right arm around his shoulder, and he tells Yukio that she let herself live a lie and is too smart and young for her own good. She asks him if he will continue to stand in the twilight, and he answers that he will and now sees clearly thanks to her. Picking up the katana and wiping off the blood, Yukio apologizes for the trouble that she claims to have caused, pointing the katana up to her throat and head. Speaking her last words, Yukio requests Rock to tell Balalaika that she will see her on the other side sometime in the future, but Revy yells at Rock to look at her instead since he will be scarred. To Revy's discomfort, Rock calmly but also uncomfortably watches Yukio plunge her katana into her neck and head, killing herself.

Much later at a Japanese airport, Rock calls Dutch to inform him that he and Revy are returning to Roanapur. Once Dutch tells him that Rock has work to do for the Lagoon Company when he gets back, Rock asks Dutch if he knows of a French philosopher who said that people are like dice. Dutch correctly guesses that it is Jean-Paul Sartre, telling Rock that he has intellectual hobbies and asking why Rock wanted to know. Rock brushes off his own motivation and replies that he had to take care of something, and the two end the call. Rock then goes to an airport bench and Revy informs him that their flight is going to leave soon. Seeing his worried expression, she asks Rock what is wrong, and he notices the "Welcome to Japan" screening in another area. Although silent for a second, Rock tells Revy that they need to go back home to where they belong.
