Plot[]

Smoking a cigarette outside a container port, a Japanese man jokes to himself that his tobacco addiction is strong even in Thailand. A flashback to before in a room, the man, Sakata, sits across from his "uncle/ojiki" (a form of address toward older yakuza gangsters), who tells Sakata that he needs money and tickets since he cannot afford a large sum of money. Blowing out a puff of smoke, Sakata calmly remarks that he does not like hot weather. Angered, the uncle tells him that the temperature will not matter if he gets killed. Agreeing and changing the topic, Sakata waves around a small charm and states that he promised to eat with Ayako, saying that he was lucky to get the charm that Ayako wanted from the arcade. The uncle reminds Sakata that the latter killed their rival gang's leader and the rival gangsters now want revenge, urging Sakata to go ahead and that he can give Ayako something better than a charm.

Back at the port, the Japanese man smokes his cigarette and feels like he has been screwed with. To his side, Sawyer the Cleaner stands, startling him since he had not noticed her presence. Seeing her point to her own throat scar, Sakata realizes she cannot speak, and he remarks that he can only speak Japanese and would not understand her anyway. Seeing her skull shirt, he compliments Sawyer as a cool punk woman. Getting to business, the Japanese man tells her that he has been waiting for her since he has a cleaning job. Whereas she remains silent, Sakata yawns and stretches his arms as he repeats that he has work for her. Remarking that he is hungry, he asks her if she wants to grab a bite to eat. At an outdoor dining place, Sakata eats some cooked rice despite its peculiar taste, and he encourages the hesitant Sawyer to treat herself since the money he brought from Japan will last for a while.

As they eat, Sawyer notices several men walking toward her who call her by name, asking her why she is eating at such a place. Sakata wonders what is going on, and one man tells her if she does not start cleaning soon, then the site will stink, grabbing her hand. Sakata pushes his arm aside, angrily telling him that he and the young lady are eating and demanding no disturbance. The English-speaking apron man yells at him to get out of the way and speak English, whereas Sakata yells at him to speak Japanese since neither understand each other. As the men argue, Sawyer tilts her head and shows a smile, shocking the English-speaking men since they have never seen Sawyer smile before. To Sakata's annoyance, they ignore his anger and awe at the cleaner's smile. The men then tell Sakata that they will use violence even if he is an acquaintance of Sawyer, but they are interrupted by a gunshot that whizzes past Sakata and breaks apart the bowl on the table, scaring Sawyer. In response, the English-speakers pull out their guns and point in the attacker's direction, calmly surprising Sakata due to everyone carrying a firearm. The men try to assess who shot at them while the Japanese man advises Sawyer to flee the scene with him. Beginning to run away, Sakata heartily smiles and takes Sawyer's hand, making her blush.

After escaping to another area in town, Sakata sits on a crate while Sawyer sits on another, assuring her that they are now safe. Commenting on Roanapur, he states that one gun shot in Japan will easily get one into trouble, whereas in Roanapur, people shoot others in lieu of greeting them. Wondering what happened earlier, he asks himself what business the attackers had with Sawyer and who she is. As he thinks to himself that he wants to escape and get a pistol, Sawyer tugs at Sakata's sleeve and points to a nearby building. Opening the warehouse door, the two step inside, and Sakata immediately covers his face due to the horrid stench. Looking around, he is surprised to find a dozen corpses lying throughout the place and guesses that a massacre happened. Stepping on a pistol, he picks it up and notes that there are still bullets inside the gun. He is curious to see why Sawyer is carrying a bucket but realizes that it is for cleaning up the corpses, thanking her for her help.

Smiling, Sakata declares that he will now stay in Roanapur since he has a gun, but seconds later he is suddenly shot in the back by an unseen assailant, falling to the ground. As he recognizes the shooter, the shooter sarcastically apologizes and states that he can be allowed to return to Japan now that he has killed his "bro", fleeing the scene. As Sakata cries on the ground, he sees Sawyer's silhouette looking over him. Using his last bit of strength, he holds up the small charm from before and offers it to Sawyer, who is surprised at the gesture. Later, Sawyer's three assistants arrive at the warehouse and are surprised to see Sakata, recognizing him from before. One man asks Sawyer what they will do with the mess of corpses now and if she will deal with the corpses at her place. Turning around and flashing a bright smile in agreement, she happily waves the charm to add to her collection.
