Plot[]
The beginning narration states that this story takes place during Roberta's first visit to Roanapur. In an alleyway, Sawyer the Cleaner prepares to cut a terrified tied-up man apart with her chainsaw when she is politely interrupted by Roberta, who apologizes and asks Sawyer if she knows where bad people gather at. Sawyer points to the side of her, but Roberta is confused. When the cleaner shows her throat scar to Roberta, the maid apologizes for not noticing her lack of voice, telling Sawyer to continue her work as she nonchalantly walks away. Later at the Roanapur Public Cemetery, a slim man, Doctor Jacob, takes off his hazmat suit and laments how six people meant to be "disposed" escaped due to a car accident as well as the van's driver and another associate being killed. Commending Sawyer for her hard work, he suggests that she join him and Bunny the Undertaker for dinner after disposing of the "garbage" in the cemetery.
Happy to see them both, Bunny greets them, with Jacob asking her how she is doing and if she is working. Once telling her that he has 8 bodies for her, Bunny agrees and is even happier when Jacob wants to have dinner after she is finished. At the dinner table, Jacob presents to them garfish terrine, onion gratin soup, chicken confit, and strawberry pudding for the ladies. Bunny joyfully jumps and compliments the Doctor's cooking, and she remarks while eating that filling in 8 people was difficult. Jacob assures her that he has a good advance payment for her. Having the two of them with him, Jacob declares that they are like a happy family with a "mama" and "papa." As Sawyer is surprised by his comment, Bunny suddenly hugs her, and the Doctor laughs.
After dinner at night, Jacob and Sawyer walk through the cemetery together. Saying that Bunny is a nice girl, Jacob describes how Bunny's father was a Catholic priest and the original caretaker of the cemetery, and she grew a dark heart due to her father's strict care. Jacob wonders if it is wrong to ask for family and friends, but he thinks that the relationship between him, Sawyer and Bunny is like family. His thin eyes have a regretful look, saying it would be nice to have a real family, and the mellow Sawyer continues listening. Later at the Yellow Flag, Bao greets Sawyer, telling her that there was yet again another fight, but the resulting damage was so large that even the police got involved. Wondering if the maid acted alone, he sarcastically remarks that the cleaner is getting involved as well, bidding Sawyer good luck on cleaning up the mess. As Sawyer steps outside the bar, Jacob drives by and stops next to her and urges her to get inside the car.
As he rushes to the cemetery, Jacob reminds her about the recent string of murders of cleaners, including how a cleaner carrying a corpse to the cemetery got murdered. Urging that they need to hurry, he clarifies that Bunny is in danger, surprising Sawyer. Arriving at the cemetery, Sawyer and Jacob run in as the latter yells Bunny's name. Coming across an angel statue, Sawyer sees the tied-up Bunny next to a thin silhouette. As Sawyer angrily prepares her chainsaw, a needle is injected into her shoulder from behind, taking her by surprise. When she wakes up and is tied-up too, Jacob sits beneath the angel statue, knowing that Sawyer is wondering "why." Showing that the silhouette she saw earlier is a tied-up and gagged man, Jacob elaborates that he genuinely cares about her and Sawyer. Suddenly stabbing the man while continuing to sit, Jacob states that is exactly "why" since he has always wanted to kill his family. Trying to articulate his reasons, he claims he does not know what his feeling is but ties his murderous intentions back to his first experience of being abandoned by his parents.
Thinking that family is about killing, Jacob declares that it does not seem too bad. As he prepares a scalpel and sarcastically thanks Sawyer, he is impaled from behind with a narrow fence spike by Bunny. Slowly turning his head, Jacob sees that Bunny stabbed him and he smiles, falling to the ground onto his knees. As Bunny unties and checks on Sawyer, the latter prepares her chainsaw but hears Jacob state that being killed by family is not a bad way to go, making Sawyer's eyes widen. Coughing up more blood, Jacob tells Sawyer that he hopes that she can have a family again, and she thinks about his words as she finishes him off with her chainsaw. Afterward, the two women walk together and Bunny asks Sawyer if she is all right and adds that her own wound is not bad enough to need hospital treatment. Trying to cheer her up, Bunny remarks that it is not the first time that she killed her father, and in their path stands Roberta, who recognizes Sawyer from before. Looking at Bunny, the beaten-up Roberta compliments her bunny mask in awe.
Noticing Bunny's hand wound and bleeding, Roberta politely offers to bandage her wound, telling her to wait one moment. After wrapping her hand, Roberta pats Bunny's bandaged hand and advises Bunny to see a doctor as soon as possible, and Bunny thanks her. As Roberta kindly says it is nice to meet her "family," her master calls for her, so she tells him that she will be right there. Telling the two women that sisters should get along, the bruised Roberta bids them goodbye. As Sawyer stands there and thinks about Roberta and Jacob's words about family, time passes with Sawyer's first encounter with Shenhua and Lotton. About a year later during Roberta's second visit to Roanapur, Sawyer is playing video games with Lotton when Shenhua gets a call from Revy about a job to find Roberta. Sawyer listens to Shenhua talking and asking about payment as she repeatedly presses the controller's buttons, and when Shenhua asks the two if they want to come along, Sawyer immediately and warmly raises her hand.
