El Baile de la muerte / Roberta's Blood Trail[]

In the anime, Horner is seen sitting in a car during Grey Fox's mission to eliminate a leftist political party leader in Barinas, Venezuela that resulted in the accidental killing of Diego Lovelace.[2] Horner is not seen in the manga during the Venezuela mission.

Sometime after the mission in Barinas, Venezuela, Horner and Grey Fox got their next mission to capture Shue Yan in the Golden Triangle, so he joined his leader Shane Caxton in traveling to Roanapur for a starting point of travel. In the evening when various groups began to surround the soldiers' encampments in the hotels, Horner helped set up Claymore mines to make an escape to the rooftops when necessary, and he also reported back to Caxton for reconnaissance.[3] Once the mercenaries' attack began, Horner and his fellow troops escaped to the rooftops. There, Roberta, who wanted revenge on the American soldiers for killing her master Diego Lovelace, began to shoot at the soldiers, forcing them to take cover from the gunfire. Shane ordered Horner and Wright to use suppressive fire while Raymond McDougal escorted the other soldiers onto other rooftops away from Roberta's sniping vicinity.[4]

At night, Shane and his men found Roberta in an empty building and saw her in her deteriorating mental state. When they saw that she was going to kill Garcia Lovelace due to thinking that the child was a figment of her imagination, Master Sergeant Horner and Staff Sergeant Burroughs shot at her to move her away from the boy, and Sanchez tossed a smoke grenade in the area so that Horner could jump in and save Garcia.[5] Outside the building, Horner tried to calm down the frightened Garcia when he woke up by offering him water, but Sanchez interrupted and joked that Horner was not good at talking with children, so Sanchez talked to Garcia in Spanish.[1]

Garcia noticed that the troops were the same exact people responsible for killing Diego Lovelace, making him grab a nearby pistol on the ground. When Sanchez saw the boy point the gun toward Caxton, Sanchez quickly drew his pistol onto the boy, but Horner jumped forward and disarmed the child before he or Sanchez could shoot. Horner and the others were surprised by the boy's action, and Garcia told them that he knew they were in Barinas, Venezuela and killed his father. When Caxton accepted responsibility and even offered his own pistol to the boy, Horner and the others demanded Caxton not to let him have the weapon, but Caxton told him to stand down.[6]

Although Garcia decided he could not go through with taking revenge on Caxton, Roberta jumped down to attack Caxton with her guns, but the troops shot back and Horner shielded Garcia to prevent Roberta's gunfire from accidentally killing him. Garcia got up and told the troops not to kill her since her mental state was due to Grey Fox's killing of his father. Soon, it was shown that Horner got an injury from the gunfire but survived. As the other Grey Fox soldiers got the Vysotniki's protection to get safe passage out of Roanapur, Horner and Sanchez were assigned to watch over Garcia. Unknown to them both, Revy and Shenhua were nearby and prepared to shoot them so that they could take Garcia, but the Vysotniki shot at both women as a warning, surprising Horner and Sanchez. After Garcia reunited with Fabiola Iglesias, Horner and Grey Fox soon boarded Dutch's boat.[7]

When the American soldiers arrived in the Golden Triangle, Horner assembled the strike force for the team to protect Garcia as they surveyed the jungle to find Roberta.[8] In the end, Horner survived the ordeal and helped the other troops secretly extradite Shue Yan to the United States.[9]
