Eda Initial Stage history[]
Besides helping Cillian McGrath within the Advanced IRA, Ian also hung out with him outside of their extremist activities. In one instance, he purchased fancy dog food for Cillian's dog Quinn. As a result, Quinn had a difficult time eating regular dog food again, a memory which Cillian cherished.[1]
Our Day Will Come[]
Ian traveled to the United States with Cillian to procure Stinger missiles for the Advanced IRA's next terrorist attack in the United Kingdom. The two men met up with American gunrunners who additionally offered them a variety of powerful firearms. However, as the deal commenced at night on the American East Coast, ATF agents raided the building and ordered the criminals to surrender. Immediately, Cillian and Ian shot back at the agents in the ensuing gunfight, with the American gunrunners not surviving the ordeal. Barging out of the building, Ian followed Cillian to their getaway boat and as he ran closer to the port edge, he was shot in the abdomen by a pursuing agent. Nonetheless, he escaped their reach and sat in the back of the motorboat, with the unaware Cillian asking if he was all right. In immense pain from his fatal wound, Ian simply lied that he would be all right, revealing to his comrade that he was shot. Before dying, Ian joked that his wound was merely a scratch, but to Cillian's grief, he did not survive the gunshot.[2]
Afterward, Cillian was heavily affected by Ian's death since he had already seen many AIRA members killed in his life, and his close friend dying made him depressed. When he returned to the United Kingdom, Cillian secretly plotted a betrayal against AIRA leader Michael Connolly because he believed Connolly did not care about Ian's survival despite his contribution to their goal of Irish unification. Subsequently, he allowed the Metropolitan Police Service to be tipped off about their hideout near where the terrorist attack was going to be. When he himself was gravely wounded by Eda, Cillian thought about Ian's face as well as the faces of other young and dead AIRA associates right before he killed himself.[3]
