Jackpot Pigeons (ジャック・ポット・ピジョンズ Jakku Potto Pijonzu)[1] is a strip club and nude bar located in Roanapur on Rachada Street. It is managed by Rowan "Jackpot" Pigeons, whose nickname is derived from his club's name.
Business[]
Jackpot Pigeons offers basic strip club services, and the business orders alcohol from the Lagoon Company to meet their demand. In addition, the joint also hosts S&M shows, and Revy even participated in one in the first light novel as well as doing another performance in "The Wired Red Wild Card". Behind closed doors, Rowan also possesses and sells both legal pornography and illegal black market films, including child sexual exploitation films and snuff films.[2]
History[]
Calm down, two men[]
In the "Calm down, two men" arc, Rock and Revy visited the strip club to tell Rowan that his shipment of 1,500 bottles of alcohol had arrived and were stored in a port warehouse. Sitting down with two female employees, Rowan joked that he missed Revy's role as a former S&M performer at the business. Revy rejected coming back while Rock awkwardly turned down a drink from one of the topless employees. Both pirates left, but not before Rowan told Rock that he could stop by anytime if he was "feeling down."[3]
Bloodsport Fairy tale[]
When the twins Hänsel and Gretel were wanted for murdering criminals of the various mobs in Roanapur, Balalaika wanted to ascertain their appearance after finding out from Rock that the twins were most likely Romanian. Members of Hotel Moscow went to Jackpot Pigeons to forcibly bring Rowan with them, who was terrified of Balalaika. Soon, Rowan was forced to lend his collection of child sexual exploitation films to Balalaika, who discovered from one of the tapes that the twins were forced to participate in snuff films created for pedophiles.[4]
The Wired Red Wild Card[]
After The Quartet failed to kill Feng Yifei the first time they saw her, the four assassins visited the strip club to ask Captain Yang about the Lagoon Company due to their sudden protection of the ex-Chinese spy. Yang clarified that the pirates unintentionally helped Feng, but Montero was adamant in wanting extra pay. The Chinese captain promised that he would talk to his superiors about the request and would also inform them when his group spotted Feng. Although Yang tried to inquire a second time about their fourth brother,[5] the conversation was abruptly ended by the perverted Park Seung grabbing hold of a stripper, resulting in Julian D restraining him and the brothers being kicked out of the establishment. In the back area in the dressing room, Revy and Rock brought Feng there for brief refuge from her pursuers. Joanna came by and apologized to Feng for the noise, saying that she would have to get used to the place. Feng finished relaying to the pirates about the details of how she was betrayed by Jane, so Rock suggested that she hack back into Annenheim Distributions' server. Before they headed out, Revy whistled with her fingers to call the strippers. Excited to answer her, they wondered what favor she wanted from them, and they accordingly disguised Feng with a makeover, dressing her in a small one-piece dress with a blonde wig.[6]
Later after Feng was spotted in an internet café and was forced to flee, she returned to Jackpot Pigeons as a hiding place and continued her decryption of emails from the People's Liberation Army. Rock soon reconvened there in a sweat after buying a laptop at the Maplao market, worrying that Revy would be hunted by the assassins, but Feng reminded him that the assassins were after her, not Revy, and they would get no money for killing the latter woman.[7] Subsequently, Feng had a conversation with Rock about how her current life was parallel with Rock's since not only both of them were cut loose by their bosses, but they sought out the chaotic freedom that Roanapur provided.[8] Eventually, Rock noted that her decryption had finished, and the two read the emails between the PLA and the Sigurimi, finding out that the PLA funded the Sigurimi with gold ingots referred to as "Ali Dragua" and demanded their return. Preparing to head out to piece together the full background, the ex-salaryman stared into Feng's eyes and proclaimed that he would enjoy playing with her life.[9]
Feng stayed overnight at the strip club while Rock left for a bit to ask for information from Eda and Rico. The next morning, Rowan talked to Feng and was disappointed that she has small breasts, telling her he could contact a surgeon to give her some breast implants for cheap. Turning to Kate, he asked her if her breast implants worked out, which she and Cindy enthusiastically confirmed. Another stripper, Lilya, informed Rock that the two clergypersons had arrived. Walking to the backdoor, she warned Rock that Eda was likely putting up an act, to which Rock agreed but advised her not to repeat that sentiment to anyone else.[10] The two church members entered with documents and briefed Feng and Rock about the appearance and background of the assassins, in addition to telling Rock about the financial dealings between Cosa Nostra and the Albanian Mafia. Rock proposed using the Albanians' money-laundering account and give it back to the Italians in exchange for Feng's safety, but the hacker said that the money-laundering machine was offline, making Eda and Rico burst into laughter. Agreeing with Feng's idea, Rock then decided that they needed to go to the Roanapur City Police Station for bribing the police to free Revy and for a more secure location for internet access, so they left.[11]
After three of the four assassins were dead and Rock and Feng successfully made a deal with Cosa Nostra, Revy reminded them that she needed to hurry back to Jackpot Pigeons since she promised to do an S&M show as a favor to Rowan for the strippers' previous help as well allowing Feng to take shelter. After Revy dressed into some stripper clothing, she and other employees like Lucie could not find her normal clothes, so Revy ordered Rock to get her some clothing before her show ended. She then went onstage with a stripper named Emushira, who served as her "submissive" partner in the show.[12] In the backroom as Revy prepared with Emushira, Feng explained to Rock that she took the heat off her and put it onto Jane by tipping off Reinbach A.G., and Feng kissed him before leaving the dressing room.[13] Beginning the performance, the "Mistress Death of Violet" Revy began whipping Emushira as the spectators cheered them on. While Feng sat in the audience and watched the spectacle, Rock was backstage when a person in Revy's regular clothing asked him where Feng was, but soon left. Rock realized that the person was the fourth assassin, prompting him to rush out of the dressing room to warn Feng. In the audience, the assassin charged at Feng, but Revy casually pulled out her pistol on stage and shot the mercenary dead, scaring the club's customers out of the building and ending the Quartet.[14]
Trivia[]
- The building's neon sign of a woman outside the front entrance first appeared in the anime. Moreover, the building's exterior sign and the words "Jackpot welcome" began appearing in the Black Lagoon manga starting in Chapter 89. In the club's first appearance in Black Lagoon Chapter 09, the word "welcome" and the letter P are the only visible parts, as the rest of the top exterior signage (including the neon outline of a woman) is not visible.
