José (ホセ Hose) was an intelligence agent who worked for Melgar in the Peruvian government. He and Lobbe were handlers of Víbora, a hunter who was able to track down the Intelligence Bureau's targets.
Appearance[]
José was a Hispanic man with a skinny build, tan skin, short dark hair, and a thick mustache. He wore a white suit over a dark-colored dress shirt, and he carried a Heckler & Koch MP5K submachine gun for a weapon.

Little King of The South[]
During President Duarte's self-coup, Melgar was ordered by him to prove the worth of the Peruvian government's Intelligence Bureau by successfully finding a connection between the CIA and the left-wing guerrillas. Accordingly, the intelligence leader had José and other officers accompany him to find a connection.[1] At first, Melgar took advantage of the military's repression of political opponents to interrogate Farias Cordero, the leader of the opposition coalition, learning some information about the CIA's presence. Going to the guerrillas' city hideout, José and Lobbe were assigned to watch Víbora as they carried out their mission to find Eda and Enrique's group. At the hideout, the intelligence agents confirmed that the dissidents had recently left, so José drove for Lobbe and Víbora as they followed Melgar, who determined that their target was heading for the mountains eastward.[2]
Later, once the agents arrived near the base of the mountains, they came across the car that the CIA agents left behind after their gunfight with Celino and his partner. Nearby, Víbora discovered the enemy's tracks, so he went on ahead much to the others' surprise. Worried, Lobbe recalled that there were children among the enemy, to which José responded that they might die of the usual sicknesses anyway. Subsequently, the remaining officers split up into two groups, with José and Lobbe following Víbora's path. That night, on a higher part of the mountains, the three men sneaked up on Eda's group, with Víbora taking Enrique and Mayte by surprise as they briefly left their camp.
When Eda tried to shoot at Víbora, José and Lobbe helped him by shooting at her, forcing the CIA agent to take cover. As the two sides fired at each other, Víbora fatally stabbed Luciana, causing Enrique to shoot at him in a fit of rage. The frustrated José turned toward him and fired at Enrique, but he exposed his back thereby allowing Eda to shoot him in the head seconds later, killing him.[3] After Lobbe and Víbora escaped, the former reported José's death to Melgar and they continued their pursuit.[4]
