L'annulaire (ラニュレール Ranyurēru) was a member of Les Cinq Doigts, a five-member unit of France's Service d'Action Civique (SAC). One mission she had as a member was to go to Roanapur and hunt down a man called "La Mouche." Her name is French for "annulary" (or "ring finger"), also being her code name in Les Cinq Doigts.

Appearance[]

L'annulaire was a young woman of East Asian descent with a skinny build and pale skin. She had black hair styled in a short bob cut, and she wore a bullet-resistant black pantsuit with black gloves and shoes. In addition, she carried a Jericho pistol for a weapon.

History[]

Before her affiliation with Les Cinq Doigts, she worked for the French government, not yet having her code name.

L'homme sombre[]

As a member of Les Cinq Doigts, she helped her comrades Le Pouce, L'index, Le Majeur, and L'auriculaire complete covert missions on behalf of the DGSE. In the mid-1990s, Les Cinq Doigts got a new mission to hunt down "La Mouche," who was profiled as a Black man who was 2 meters tall and worked for anti-French forces in Africa. The five women went to Nigeria on ambiguous intelligence, and their operation there ended in them being surrounded. To help her comrades escape, the first L'auriculaire sacrificed herself to let her comrades flee, being murdered in the process. Soon, a new blonde-haired woman replaced L'auriculaire,[1] and their intelligence network, the Réseau, provided Les Cinq Doigts with more credible intel that indicated that La Mouche was in the Thai city of Roanapur.

Accordingly, L'annulaire with the other four Frenchwomen arrived in the city and began targeting and killing tall Black men in the city, including a fight promoter working for Ronnie the Jaws. In that particular incident, they went to a fighting ring and sat down to watch the fixed match between Somsak and Kittikhun. Complaining about the town's hot, tropical atmosphere, L'annulaire commented to Le Pouce that her intel had better be correct. After Le Majeur volunteered to fight the winning boxer and won, she entered the promoter's office, asking him if he was familiar with several names and the date September 18, 1989. When the promoter found her questioning ridiculous, L'annulaire and the other women entered the office as well to back Majeur up, killing the promoter's henchmen but sparing him to interrogate him. L'auriculaire eventually killed the promoter without learning anything of significance.[2]

In a later incident, L'annulaire witnessed L'auriculaire interrogate and prematurely kill another Black man. Immediately afterward, L'annulaire warned L'auriculaire that she went too far, but the latter woman responded that she only followed orders to make him talk. Le Majeur then began to question Le Pouce's intel once again due to the botched operation in Nigeria,[3] but Pouce replied that her intel was more accurate this time. Nonetheless, Majeur retorted that she had no obligation to believe Pouce after the first L'auriculaire's death. L'annulaire agreed with L'index and advised Majeur to let go of her grudge, with Pouce adding that the first L'auriculaire's death was a sacrifice. Angered by her comment, Majeur pulled her gun on Pouce, prompting L'annulaire and the other women to pull their guns on Majeur in turn. When Pouce reminded her that L'auriculaire did save their lives and that she truly felt sorry, all four women put away their guns upon Majeur sheathing her weapon and angrily leaving to calm down.[4]

After the argument between Le Pouce and Le Majeur, L'annulaire went to a café with L'auriculaire and L'index, and L'index told the new L'auriculaire about Majeur's grudge against Pouce due to the former accusing the latter of intentionally getting the first L'auriculaire killed. L'annulaire elaborated that the first L'auriculaire was a kind and gentle person who was not the type of person one would expect to be in their line of work. Confused by Majeur's resentment, the second L'auriculaire responded that Majeur should not be so angry since casualties were expected in their line of work, adding that they could lose another member if Majeur continued to let her feelings interfere in their job.[1] Around this time, L'annulaire and her comrades almost killed Jinx, another Black man who was contracted under Hotel Moscow. When Hotel Moscow arrived at the bloodbath, the Frenchwomen fled to save themselves, leaving Jinx alive.

The next Black man that Les Cinq Doigts targeted was François Modibo, who worked at Isaac's antiques shop. Accordingly, the women arrived outside the store. As they exited their car, Le Pouce relayed to the others that she would wait outside while they entered the building.[5] Inside the shop, Le Majeur asked L'annulaire which person in the store was the target, and L'annulaire nonchalantly pointed out to her that it was the large Black man behind the "Arab" Isaac. Seeing that Revy realized that they would put up fight, the four Frenchwomen began a shootout with Revy, Shenhua and Modibo while Rock and Isaac hid behind the counter. During the fighting, Shenhua threw her kukri at L'annulaire's left arm, but her armored suit protected her from having her arm cut off. Revy used suppressive fire for Shenhua as the latter woman pushed L'annulaire out of the store window, knocking her onto her back. Majeur asked L'annulaire if she was all right, and she got up with the others to flee to the car due to being outmatched. As Majeur struggled to get away, L'auriculaire aimed her pistol and intentionally fired at Majeur, hitting her in her left eye and incapacitating her. Pouce was shocked, but L'auriculaire yelled at her her to drive, so L'annulaire and the women left Majeur behind to escape.[6]

Later the next night, Le Majeur returned to Les Cinq Doigts' safehouse, surprising the other women enough to pull out their guns on her.[7] L'index stated that L'auriculaire told everyone that Majeur died at the shootout, to which L'auriculaire responded that she thought Majeur got killed after her capture. When Majeur retorted that L'auriculaire should have aimed between the eyes to kill her, L'annulaire claimed that she was right to shoot her since she fell into enemy hands. Although they continued pointing their weapons at Majeur, Le Pouce ordered them to lower their guns, smilingly remarking that she was glad that Majeur returned. Recapping what happened during her disappearance to L'annulaire and the other three, Majeur mentioned that she got intelligence from an informant on La Mouche's next location in three days at a nightclub. Slightly sweating, L'annulaire remarked that she accomplished a lot in such a short time frame. Despite Majeur's details, L'annulaire suggested that they do reconnaissance first, but Pouce rejected the idea, reasoning that they should not spread themselves thin and lose another member. Consequently, the women planned an ambush for that night, and they entered the club and waited for Dutch to arrive as well.

As L'annulaire stood by, L'auriculaire listened on her communications until L'index spotted him, prompting the women to get moving. L'annulaire and the women confronted Dutch, addressing him as La Mouche of Burkina Faso. To their surprise, Balalaika with her Vysotniki of Hotel Moscow surrounded them, telling the women that they would end up as pig food. Immediately, the Vysotniki began shooting at the women, scaring the club customers out of the building. Shouting that she could take care of the soldiers on the upper level, L'annulaire asked Majeur for backup but received no response. As she tried to shout for L'index's help, L'auriculaire furiously reported back that Majeur deceived everyone.[8] While L'index, Le Pouce and L'auriculaire took cover, the angry L'annulaire ran toward Dutch and tried to shoot at him, but he shot her first, knocking her to the ground. As she angrily looked up and grimaced at Dutch, he advised her to not lose focus next time and to enjoy hell, and the Vysotniki shot her dead. L'annulaire's murder prompted a terrified L'index to surrender, but she was killed by Balalaika upon stepping out into the open.[9]
