L'index (ランデクス Randekusu) was a member of Les Cinq Doigts, a five-member unit of France's Service d'Action Civique (SAC). One mission she had as a member was to go to Roanapur and hunt down a man called "La Mouche." Her name is French for "index finger," also being her code name in Les Cinq Doigts.
Appearance[]
L'index was a young Arab[1] woman. She had medium-length, loose black hair, a skinny build, and tan skin. Additionally, she wore a bullet-resistant black pantsuit with black gloves and shoes, and she carried a Jericho pistol for a weapon.
History[]
Before her affiliation with Les Cinq Doigts, she worked for the French government, not yet having her code name.
L'homme sombre[]
As a member of Les Cinq Doigts, she helped her comrades Le Pouce, Le Majeur, L'annulaire, and L'auriculaire complete covert missions on behalf of the DGSE. In the mid-1990s, Les Cinq Doigts got a new mission to hunt down "La Mouche," who was profiled as a Black man who is 2 meters tall and worked for anti-French forces in Africa. The five women went to Nigeria on ambiguous intel, and their operation there ended in them being surrounded. To help her comrades escape, the first L'auriculaire sacrificed herself to let her comrades flee, getting murdered in the process. Soon, a new blonde-haired woman replaced L'auriculaire,[2] and their intelligence network, the Réseau, provided Les Cinq Doigts with more credible intel that indicated that La Mouche was in the Thai city of Roanapur.
Accordingly, the five Frenchwomen arrived in the city and began targeting and killing tall Black men in the city, including a fight promoter working for Ronnie the Jaws. In that particular incident, they went to a fight club and sat down to watch a fixed match between Somsak and Kittikhun. Seeing that Le Majeur was listening to a song, L'index asked her if she could listen to it too. Once Majeur volunteered to fight the champion boxer and won, she was escorted to the angry promoter's office, asking the Black promoter if he was familiar with several names and the date September 18, 1989. When the promoter found her questioning ridiculous, L'index and the other women entered the office to back Majeur up, killing the promoter's henchmen but sparing him to interrogate him.[3]
Some day later, they interrogated another Black man and yet again killed him quickly. L'index then asked Pouce what their next action was since more murders would draw even more attention to them.[4] Pouce responded that they needed to be patient, but Majeur adamantly continued to say that she did not owe Pouce anything after she got the first L'auriculaire killed. L'index told Majeur to let go of her grudge, but the latter pulled a gun on Pouce after she claimed that the first L'auriculaire's death was a sacrifice. As L'index and the others had their pistols on Majeur too, the latter soon sheathed her gun and walked away, prompting L'index to stand down.[5]
After the argument between Le Pouce and Le Majeur, L'index went to a café with L'auriculaire and L'annulaire, and she told L'auriculaire about Majeur's grudge against Pouce due to the former accusing the latter of intentionally getting the first L'auriculaire killed. The second L'auriculaire responded that Majeur should not be so angry since casualties were expected in their line of work, but L'index replied that Pouce could at least be considerate toward Majeur, adding that Majeur had a little sister that the first L'auriculaire reminded her of. Finishing their conversation, L'auriculaire coldly stated that they could lose another member if Majeur continued to let her feelings interfere in their mission.[2]
Around this time, L'index and her comrades almost killed Jinx, another Black man who was contracted under Hotel Moscow. When Hotel Moscow arrived at the bloodbath, the Frenchwomen fled, leaving Jinx alive. The next Black man that Les Cinq Doigts tracked down was François Modibo, who worked at Isaac's antiques shop. Accordingly, the women arrived outside the store and Le Pouce waited in the car while the other four entered the building.[1] Seeing Modibo behind the counter, the four Frenchwomen threatened to fight Revy, Shenhua and Modibo, but Revy shot L'index first, knocking her back but being uninjured due to her bullet-resistant suit. As Les Cinq Doigts were pushed back by their enemies' superior fighting, L'auriculaire wanted to retreat, so the women began fleeing to the front door. To help Majeur escape capture by Shenhua, L'index tossed a stun grenade in the store, momentarily disorienting Shenhua. As Majeur struggled to get away, L'auriculaire aimed her pistol and fired at Majeur, hitting her in her left eye, incapacitating her. L'index and the others were shocked, but L'auriculaire yelled at Pouce to drive, and the women left Majeur behind to escape.[6]
Later the next night, Le Majeur returned to Les Cinq Doigts' safehouse, surprising the other women enough to draw their weapons.[7] A confused L'index stated that L'auriculaire informed everyone that Majeur died at the shootout, to which L'auriculaire responded that she thought Majeur got killed after her capture. Majeur retorts that L'auriculaire should have aimed between the eyes to kill her, but Pouce interrupted them, saying that she was glad Majeur returned alive. L'auriculaire remained skeptical while Majeur discussed what happened during her disappearance to L'index and the others, mentioning that she got intelligence on La Mouche's next location in three days at a nightclub. Accordingly, the women planned an ambush for that night, and they entered the club and waited for Dutch to enter the building. L'index spotted him and informed the others of his presence, prompting the women follow him.
Walking up to him, the Frenchwomen then confronted Dutch, addressing him as La Mouche of Burkina Faso. To their surprise, Balalaika with her Vysotniki of Hotel Moscow surrounded them, telling the women that they would end up as pig food. Immediately, the Vysotniki began shooting at them, scaring the club customers out of the building.[8] L'index and the three women began taking cover, with L'auriculaire angrily yelling that Le Majeur set them up and promised to kill her. While L'index, Le Pouce and L'annulaire engaged in a firefight with the Russians, L'auriculaire chased after the fleeing Majeur elsewhere in the club. After L'annulaire got killed by the Vysotniki in her attempt to charge at Dutch, the distraught L'index immediately surrendered, putting her hands up and calmly pleading for her life to be spared. To her dismay, Balalaika laughed at her request and retorted that she was not a true soldier, shooting L'index right in the forehead, killing her instantly.[9]
