Corporal Lazar (Russian: Капрал Лазарь; Japanese: ラザル伍長 Razaru gochō) is an ex-Soviet Airborne Forces soldier who is a member of Hotel Moscow under Balalaika's command. He serves as a skilled sniper in the Vysotniki.
Appearance[]
Lazar is a Caucasian man of Russian nationality with a skinny build, pale skin, and short, light-brown hair. He is seen wearing a dark tan suit with dark green pants. Moreover, he carries a pistol for a weapon, though he has also been seen using an AK-74 rifle and a Dragunov sniper rifle.
History[]
Chase for ring-ding ships[]
Only in the anime, after Chen was captured and executed by Balalaika and Hotel Moscow for attempting to kill the Lagoon Company, Lazar and other gangsters also captured Donnie Yen, who abetted Chen's failed plan via a false job. In Balalaika's office, Lazar used his pistol to shoot the tied-up Donnie twice, killing him.[1]
Bloodsport Fairy tale[]
When Balalaika deployed the Vysotniki throughout Roanapur to hunt down Hänsel and Gretel, Lazar was placed in Jodorowsky's unit. During the phase where the soldiers forced the twin children to take a certain path, Balalaika and Boris heard an unknown gunshot near her position, so Vysotniki in the vicinity rushed to the area to see if it was a stray bounty hunter. Standing in the back of a truck armed with an AK-74 rifle, Lazar prepared to shoot at whomever was interfering. Once Jodorowsky stopped the car to block the alleyway entrance, Lazar opened fire on the alleyway to force Eda and Revy out of the way and to corner the twins. In a short period, Gretel disappeared, so he continued with Jodorowsky's team toward the final location, intentionally luring Hänsel with their car to a park.
The subsequent morning, Lazar laid down on a faraway rooftop with Boris and Daniil armed with a Dragunov sniper rifle. In Balalaika's confrontation of Hänsel, he shot Hänsel in the right knee when the grieving Balalaika ordered the child to kneel and apologize for the murders which he carried out. When the child attempted to throw his axe, Lazar then shot his left hand, blowing it apart and immobilizing him further. He then, like the other snipers throughout the area, kept watch silently as Balalaika watched the boy bleed to death.[2]
Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise[]
In early 1996, Lazar and the Vysotniki accompanied Balalaika to Japan to aid Hotel Moscow's Japanese branch, which was dwindling under Vasili Laptev's poor leadership. After Laptev's assassination and the Washimine Group's betrayal against Balalaika, Lazar was ordered by Boris and Balalaika to kill Washimine Group enforcers in the early hours of the next morning. Accordingly, he posed as a deliveryman with a package and walked up to a Washimine Group base. When the men opened the door, the smiling Lazar looked up and tossed a few grenades inside, killing the yakuza as well as their enforcer Shigeru Itō. Reconvening with the other combat units, he returned to base on the Marya Zaleska using an electric company van.[3] When Balalaika disembarked the ship to complete her last task of visiting and eliminating Masami Kōsa at the Kōsa Council headquarters, he waited with other soldiers on the ship's deck. Watching her return, Lazar cheered and high-fived Jodorowsky upon hearing her declaration that they would finally return to Roanapur.[4]
