"Captain PICARD!!!" —Leigharch

Leigharch (レガーチ Regāchi) is an Irish driver contracted under the Hong Kong Triad who worked with Shenhua at one time.

Appearance[]

Leigharch is a 40-year-old[1] man with a skinny build, pale skin, short but shaggy blond hair, and a very thin patchy beard. He wears tinted sunglasses, a green dress shirt, and several beaded necklaces including one with a cross moline pendant.

Personality[]

He speaks English with an Irish accent. A compulsive user of cannabis in the anime (in the manga he additionally uses cocaine), Leigharch has a frequent tendency to hallucinate at inopportune times, particularly in the middle of a car chase in the "Goat, Jihad, Rock'N Roll" arc. Most of his hallucinations are actually references to Western pop culture, such as Playboy Playmates, Star Trek characters like Jean-Luc Picard and Klingons, or sixties rock music legends such as Jimi Hendrix.

History[]

Goat, Jihad, Rock'N Roll[]

Mister Chang had Leigharch serve as a getaway driver for the Lagoon Company when they arrived to the rendezvous point on Basilan Island with the Hezbollah plan documents, having Shenhua accompany him too. While waiting in the car, Shenhua advised him not to be high since they were still on their mission, but Leigharch felt tired and still wanted to use his drugs. Nearby, the two noticed cars speeding by them, with the driver remarking that they were possibly government forces performing a drill. Shenhua asked if they should check out if they were government forces or terrorists, but Leigharch rejected the idea since he wanted to avoid trouble.[1] When the enemy kidnapped Rock and began a shootout with Revy, Shenhua told him that the shooting started and he needed to drive. As Revy got cornered, Leigharch stopped the car behind her as Shenhua used throwing knives to kill the enemy gunmen. Revy asked them if they were the getaway party, with Leigharch confirming by angrily and sarcastically replying that he was a lawyer.[2]

Leigharch drives to base

As Leigharch drove Revy and Shenhua, he remarked that he would be glad to return to the military base immediately so they could finish their job, but Revy said that she needed to save her partner Rock. The two Triad affiliates laughed off her request, with Leigharch referring to Revy as Mary Reed and retorting that she could get some cavalry on her own. When Revy claimed that Rock had the documents and insulted Shenhua, Leigharch stopped the car, telling Shenhua to go outside if she wanted to kill Revy. Given that they needed the documents to complete the job, Leigharch and Shenhua wanted extra pay for the rescue job, and although Leigharch wanted a higher amount, Shenhua decided that they should not argue further and accept Revy's 15 percent offer. Subsequently, he begrudgingly agreed and drove Revy and Shenhua near the Abu Sayyaf base. Before the women left, Revy insulted Leigharch as a "junkie Irishman" (or a "mick" in the manga), and he showed her his middle finger in turn.[3]

Upon saving Rock from the camp at night, Revy and Shenhua got back to the car and noticed that Leigharch was quite high on cannabis, but Revy kicked his seat to wake him up, making him start the car in a drug-induced rant about fighting the Klingons. While Shenhua and Revy fought off the guerrillas from the car's sunroof, Leigharch still had hallucinations and even saw Playboy Playmates. Eventually, Leigharch drove the car right past the army base gate, with the soldiers standing down since they initially thought that it was an enemy car. Meeting the CIA agents, Revy revealed that she had the documents the entire time, and Leigharch and Shenhua got paid.[4]

Greenback Jane[]

Leigharch was said by Shenhua during the "Greenback Jane" arc to have suffered a massive overdose (he "couldn't get back from Mars"), inducing psychological damage severe enough to commit him to full-time medical care.[5]

Shaitane Badi[]

In the first light novel Shaitane Badi, Leigharch served as a driver for Revy and Shenhua when they were ordered by Mister Chang to raid an abandoned factory used as a hideout by mercenaries who tried to kill Chang. On the way to the enemy hideout, Revy once again verbally fought with the driver and warned him not to lose focus by being high on drugs.[6]
