Maid to Kill is the ninth episode of the Black Lagoon anime. It originally aired in Japan on June 3, 2006.
Summary[]
The Lagoon Company learns a little too late that Roberta is a strong opponent with a price on her head as they try to escape with Garcia Lovelace.
Plot[]
While in the backseat of Benny's car, Garcia Lovelace has a happy dream about spending time with Roberta and his father Diego Lovelace. He wakes up and remembers that he is an abducted child. As he looks out the window and sees the streets of Roanapur, he remarks that it is completely dirty and different from his hometown in Venezuela. Rock agrees that a child like him should not be exposed to such sights. Nonetheless, Garcia states that he is all right, asserting that he has faith in Roberta to save him. Telling the boy he is lucky to feel such confidence in his heart, Rock says that he must have a great family, adding that he wonders about his own family sometimes. Speaking up, Revy mockingly asks Rock if he misses his mother, but Rock reminds her that he would have left Roanapur a long time ago if he truly missed his family. Not believing him, she claims that only somebody who misses their mother would say that. Rock smiles and responds that he is just speaking about ideals, jokingly asking Revy if she would rescue him if he were to ever be abducted. She retorts that she would never forgive him for being so foolish, and Rock jokes to Garcia that the pirates are his friends but are worth sticking around.
Arriving at the Yellow Flag, Revy jokes that she hopes Garcia's maid is not just some fantasy he came up with. Entering the bar, Lagoon Company comes across the Manisarera Cartel members laughing at Roberta, whose voice Garcia immediately recognizes. To everyone's shock, Roberta shoots one cartel member with her umbrella gun. Infuriated, Abrego and the cartel members pull out their guns and begin firing at her. Cartwheeling to the side, the maid opens her umbrella and uses it as a shield from the gunfire. Although the men arrogantly believe that she is dead, Roberta, with a fierce glare, stands up and shoots multiple men with her umbrella gun. Ducking behind the bar counter, Bao angrily yells that Roberta and the cartel need to pay for the damages to his bar. Likewise, taking cover under a table, Dutch suggests taking the opportunity to flee the bar while the cartel and the maid are distracted with their fighting. Benny votes on not engaging in the gunfight, and Dutch proposes leaving Garcia behind since bringing him with is like having a target on their backs. Revy reminds her fellow pirates that the child is worth money, but Dutch replies that he is not worth anything anymore. Rock expresses his hesitancy at leaving Garcia behind, but the other three pirates begin discreetly crawling to the back exit.
Addressing Garcia, Rock advises him to stay put until the gunfire dies down so that he can go home to Venezuela with his maid. Crying, Garcia admits that he never thought Roberta is the type of person who can kill human beings. As Roberta continues killing the cartel members without being harmed, Dutch yells at Rock to hurry up. Smoking a cigarette, Bao mutters to himself the calculations for the damage, estimating $10,000 for the booze, $15,000 for the furniture, and $20,000 for the building. He wonders who to send the invoice to when he notices Revy sneaking away, and they briefly lock eyes. Furious, Bao angrily asks her if she is responsible, an accusation which she loudly denies. Hearing Revy's yelling, both Roberta and the cartel notice the Lagoon Company's presence. Abrego asks what they are doing at the bar and sees Garcia, causing him to additionally ask why they brought the package to Roanapur since it ignores their contract. Dutch denies that the situation is what it seems and answers that they will discuss payment later. Surprised to see her young master, Roberta tells Garcia she understands his fright at her demeanor and offers to explain herself soon.
Seeing Rock next to Garcia, the maid sternly asks who he is and slowly aims her umbrella gun at him. Though Garcia stands in front of Rock and pleads with Roberta not to attack, Revy quickly charges and points her pistol at Garcia, threatening to kill him if she does not let them leave. Annoyed with the interruption, one cartel member tries to attack Roberta, who casually shoots him and returns to thinking about Revy's ultimatum. At that point, having finished gathering her thoughts, Roberta states the Lovelace family's Spanish-language creed and professes that she cannot agree to Revy's terms and will get Garcia back in one piece. Hearing Roberta's declaration of war in the name of Santa Maria, Abrego recognizes her true identity while Revy runs and tries shooting at her. Using the opportunity, Revy and Benny crawl away while Revy attempts to hide behind the counter, much to Bao's frustration. Taking aim, Roberta shoots a grenade round at Revy, knocking her against the bar wall and into unconsciousness.
Shooting at Roberta, Abrego proclaims that he knows that she is the Bloodhound of Florencia, and the maid begins shooting at him. Benny informs Dutch that Revy's injuries are minor, but she has a concussion. As Dutch tries to wake up Revy, Garcia shouts through tears at Roberta to stop. When Rock prepares to leave, Garcia grabs his arm and asks to come with, shocking Roberta enough to drop her weapon. Picking up the boy, Rock runs out of the bar as Roberta watches them leave. Walking up to her and pointing his gun at her, Abrego relays to her that he knows she is the Bloodhound of Florencia who deserted from FARC four years ago. Commenting that everyone from drug cartels to Interpol has been looking for her and that a $400,000 bounty was placed on her by the cartel, he giddily declares that he will become a lieutenant in the cartel if he brings her head back to Colombia. Other cartel members also get up and point their guns at Roberta, who is unfazed and proclaims that she has no more reason to let the men live. Bowing to them, she bids goodbye and gives them a "parting gift" by lifting her dress to drop several grenades, shocking the men.
As Rock runs to the car, the Yellow Flag explodes from the multiple grenades detonating, and Dutch is annoyed that he brought Garcia with him. Dutch also orders him to hurry up, and Benny drives them away. Stepping out of the bar fire unharmed, Roberta finds a nearby car and breaks it to hotwire it. While driving, Benny asks where he should go, and Rock darkly jokes that Roberta is like a killer robot from the future except that they are not in a Schwarzenegger movie. Subsequently, Dutch orders Benny to head to port so they can board Black Lagoon. In her office, Balalaika informs Boris that Roberta has quite the notorious reputation. Hearing the phone ring, she answers the call and learns from Menshov that the Yellow Flag is completely destroyed and that Roberta and Lagoon Company have fled the scene. He adds that a Plymouth car was seen heading to the city on the main street ten minutes ago, asking what he should tell the bartender. Ordering him to stay put for gathering information, Balalaika tells him to assure Bao that he will not have to worry about the insurance.
As she prepares to exit her office, several Russian men follow her. Boris rhetorically asks if they are going to war once again, recalling that playing mafia dulls the senses. Professing that Hotel Moscow owes Lagoon Company, more specifically Dutch, a favor, Balalaika orders her men to head out. On the street, at the same time, Roberta suddenly catches up to the Lagoon Company in a stolen car, so Dutch urges Rock to wake Revy up. He tries shooting at her, but she continues driving. He manages to damage her car hood and radiator by shooting at the front several times, but Roberta moves closer to the front passenger seat and grabs Dutch's arm. As she pulls him out, much to his surprise, her radiator becomes shot, stopping her car and allowing him to break free. On another street, Benny turns around and drives into an alleyway, prompting Dutch to warn him that the path will be longer for them. Benny reasons that she will not catch up due to her busted radiator, but Dutch repeats Rock's joke about her being like an invincible killer robot, so Benny nervously agrees to drive faster.
On the main road, Benny travels at full speed when Roberta, in another car, suddenly drops down from a rooftop and crashes onto the car. As both cars swerve away, Roberta shoots one of Benny's tires as both vehicles crash. Several residents walk up to Roberta's car but run away in fear upon seeing her fist burst through the back window. Panicking, Benny tries to start the car, and the unharmed maid glares at them and begins to charge. Although the car starts and drives, Roberta latches onto the back with a trench knife, prompting Dutch to aim his revolver at her. Garcia refuses to get down and locks eyes with Roberta.
