Masami Kōsa (香砂こうさ政巳まさみ Kōsa Masami) or Masami Kousa was the most recent head of the Kōsa Council, a yakuza group in Japan that feuded with the Washimine Group.

Appearance[]

Kousa was an older Japanese man with a skinny build, light-tan skin, and short black hair rigidly brushed up. He wore a blue kimono and gold chain necklace.

History[]

Masami's older unnamed brother was the previous head of the Kōsa Council. Five years before the "Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise" arc, his older brother died, so Masami became the Kōsa Council's head. He despised both his older brother and the Council's relationship with the Washimine Group. Once the Washimine Group's head Ryūzō Washimine died two years later, Masami used his position to bully the Washimine Group into giving into his territory demands since the Kōsa Council had a higher rank on the Kanto Peace Council, a group that resolved problems between yakuza groups.[1] Additionally, Masami forced a new rule onto the Washimine Group where only a blood successor could succeed as leader, knowing full well that Ryūzō's daughter was a student not involved in the Group's affairs. Taking advantage of the situation, Masami had a pro-Kōsa Council man unrelated to the Washimine Group act as a substitute leader for the Washimine Group to the latter members' annoyance.[2]

Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise[]

With Balalaika's arrival in Japan, she used Hotel Moscow's Vysotniki to kill Kōsa Council gang members on behalf of a treaty with the Washimine Group, who had sought out the alliance under Tsugio Bandō's leadership.[3] Despite the many killings, Balalaika soon considered allying with the Kōsa Council instead due to Bandō's attempt on her life as well as Yukio Washimine in the anime framing a robbery on the Vysotniki after Balalaika began her bloody elimination campaign against the Washimine Group.[4] Meanwhile, due to Balalaika killing members belonging to both Yakuza groups, Masami and his bodyguard Morozumi had a meeting with Yukio and Ginji Matsuzaki. At his headquarters, he asked Yukio if she really planned on succeeding her father, and she reminded him that the blood-relative succession was the requirement that he put forth. Annoyed, Morozumi angrily warned her not to disrespect his boss, but Masami ordered him to calm down.

The leader then asked the young girl how she would make it up to the Kōsa Council and the other yakuza among them since the Washimine Group had hired Hotel Moscow in the first place. Masami reminded her that her family turned down his representative for succession, so Yukio replied that she would make a formal apology and proposition to the Kanto Peace Council at a later date, angering Morozumi enough to slam the table. As Ginji blocked the food from hitting his boss, Yukio confidently stated that they had enough action to satisfy the Peace Council's demands. The two Washimine affiliates then departed, and Masami assured the furious Morozumi that they could just wait since they had an important meeting the next day that would negatively impact the Washimine Group.[5]

A day later, Masami arranged a meeting with Balalaika and Boris at the Kōsa Council headquarters. When the meeting began, Masami extended his hand out, but Balalaika smoked a cigar and refused to reciprocate, confusing him. She agreed to annihilate the Washimine Group, and Masami commented that Hotel Moscow's previous assassinations would be forgiven since he hated the Washimine Group more. Before she agreed to the alliance, Balalaika asked him if his group was sufficiently armed. Admitting that he had kept it hidden from the other yakuza, Masami replied that he bought a machine gun from men in Hawaiʻi. Intrigued, she asked to see Morozumi's weapons. Though Morozumi was hesitant to do so, his boss ordered him to follow through because he did not want to break the progress they had made with the Russians. After seeing Morozumi's main pistol and his backup pistol, Balalaika was appalled at the second weapon's size and told Rock to translate in Japanese her disgust to Masami and Morozumi, shocking them. Consequently, she immediately decided to kill Masami, Morozumi and the remaining Kōsa members inside since she already decided that Hotel Moscow did not need Japanese interference in their in Japan, leaving the headquarters without being arrested. Because of Masami's murder, the Kōsa Council disbanded.[6]
