Nosferatu is the thirty-fourth chapter of the Black Lagoon spinoff series Dismemberment Galore! The Gore Gore Girl. It was originally released on June 17, 2022.
Plot[]
Although surviving his encounter with Jacqueline, Picton has to rest in an infirmary after his right hand was cut off. Feeling the pain in his bandaged arm, he remarks that he wants to exterminate the Baba Yaga family, asking a cloaked visitor to bring Jacqueline to him alive so that he can make her suffer for severing his hand. As the cloaked man sucks on an IV of blood, he tells his client that the job will be no problem. At the Roanapur Public Cemetery, The Undertaker No. 2 offers Jacqueline, now wearing glasses, a glass of soda gembira, telling the young girl that it is an Indonesian drink with condensed milk and syrup that requires gradual mixing. Trying the drink, Jacqueline's eyes widen and tells No. 2 that it is sweet and delicious. Trying to comfort Jacqueline more, No. 2 asks her if she is still staying in the hotel that her sister Jessica mentioned and also asks her if she is eating properly.
No. 2 expresses her ambivalence about Jacqueline belonging to a family of murderers, but Sawyer and Jessica continue drinking tea while Jessica nonchalantly responds that many things are true but Jacqueline is talented and has a legitimate link to the family's original bloodline. Thinking gloomily, No. 2 comments that one may still want to live a different life depending on their environment, saying that she ran away from her own family. Interrupting her sadness, Bunny the Undertaker gives her a thumbs up and tells No. 2 that she is glad that she became an undertaker. As nighttime starts, Jacqueline slouches her head in sleepiness, and No. 2 asks if they should go home soon. Jessica happily looks at Jacqueline and wonders if they will let her stay the night, and Jacqueline slouches her head on the coffin, asking if she can borrow it.
To their shock, a black van suddenly barges through the cemetery, knocking over several gravestones and swerving to stop right near the women. As they prepare their weapons, out the van's backdoor is tossed a coffin with a cross symbol. A mist forms as the lid opens, and a tall, skinny figure wearing a top hat and large black cloak covering most of his face emerges. Noticing that the man has short light-colored hair and has oval glasses, Sawyer initially mistakes him for Lotton but immediately deduces that the figure cannot be him. Introducing himself, the man says his name is Martin the Nosferatu. Angry that he broke several gravestones, Bunny charges with her shovel and orders him to clean up the mess. Beginning to speak further, Nosferatu agrees that it was rude but tells them that he will put them under the gravestones once he finishes them. Pulling out a Beretta 93R machine pistol, Nosferatu begins rapidly firing on them, causing No. 2 to tackle and shield Jacqueline in a small rut while the other three women barely dodge the bullets and take cover behind gravestones.
Jessica fires back with her pistol, but the bullets do not go through him. Immediately reloading his firearm, Martin fires again at Jessica as she hurriedly retakes cover. Wondering if he is bulletproof, Jessica remarks to herself that she is not good with guns and also wonders if Sawyer and Bunny have not taken notice of his bulletproofing. As bullets rain onto her gravestone cover, Jessica calmly yells to Sawyer to run away, but to her surprise both Sawyer and Bunny begin to charge at Nosferatu. Seeing that the tall figure is pointing his gun at the charging women, Jessica uses suppressive fire while lamenting that she should have killed him earlier. Jessica's bullet hits near his heart as he suddenly jolts his arms upward reacting to it, making her wonder if she hit him. Gritting her teeth, Sawyer swings her chainsaw over her shoulder, but Nosferatu instantly dodges the attack and leaves behind a large mist which brings Sawyer and Bunny to their knees and into unconsciousness. Covering her mouth with a handkerchief, Jessica notices that the mist is only knockout gas but nonetheless comments that she does not like inhaling dirty things, adding that she will take her leave.
As Jessica quietly flees, Nosferatu states to himself that he was told to bring the target alive, revealing that he is wearing a hazmat mask behind the cloak's high collar. He also adds that the gas's effect is weak outdoors but can reduce everyone's muscle movement even a little. Trying to quietly flee, No. 2 carries the sleeping Jacqueline and sees that she has been spotted by Nosferatu, who deduces the child as his target. Consequently, the man quickly blocks their path and towers over them. Removing his mask and showing a fanged vampire smile, Nosferatu maliciously remarks that he has to finish quickly but can try a "taste." As No. 2 crouches and freezes in great fear, Jacqueline wakes up, seeing the figure and immediately and instinctively thrusting her katana upwards. Despite her excellent speed, Nosferatu catches the blade with his pistol's angled foregrip, telling himself that it is a pity that he has to give Jacqueline to the "orc," but he reminds himself that it is work and he should not feel bad.
Notes[]
- The chapter title is a reference to the 1922 horror film Nosferatu.
- Although a rough draft of the chapter's second page had the correct spelling,[1] the word "Cemetery" on the Roanapur Public Cemetery sign somehow became incorrectly spelled as "Cemetary" in the final draft of the published chapter.
