Sawyer's workplace (ソーヤーの仕事場 Sōyā no shigotoba) is Frederica Sawyer's place of work where she primarily performs her corpse disposal work.
Overview[]
The building is a large rectangular building with a mortuary room, a meat freezer, meat hooks, and an acid tub. Inside, the mortuary room is a grayish teal color with square wall tiles. In this room, Sawyer usually cuts up corpses either on the floor or on the mortuary table, and she has a sink nearby for washing her hands, tools, and personal protective equipment. She accepts corpses that are dropped off at the exit door in the mortuary room, with Rock once claiming that she will do any job given to her.[1] In addition to cutting up corpses, Sawyer also has a second income by harvesting organs from corpses and trafficking them.[2] Knowing the layout of her workplace, Sawyer has a few security defenses in place, such as sodium hydroxide sprinklers in the mortuary room, and she has put a backup chainsaw and a hidden compartment in the hallway wall.[3] Seen only in the anime, a business that she uses as a front for her workplace is U.G. Pork, for which she has a truck with the company logo to ship corpses and other items.[4] Despite having her own building, Sawyer has been seen cutting up live people elsewhere in Roanapur in alleyways.[5][6]
Black Lagoon history[]
Greenback Jane[]
When Mister Chang caught a man attempting to steal his money, he had Shenhua deliver the man in a suitcase to Sawyer's workplace. There, as Sawyer was washing her gloves and arms, Shenhua entered the cleaning area with the suitcase, greeting Sawyer and apologizing for being late. The Taiwanese assassin claimed that Chang wanted to make an example out of the thief, clarifying that she forgot if Chang wanted the man chopped up or ground. Hearing Shenhua state that she would leave it up to her, Sawyer prepared her chainsaw and killed the man after Shenhua left.[7]
Gore Gore Girl history[]
Volume 1[]
When a young Thai boy, Heo, requested on behalf of a man called the “Doctor” that Sawyer procure a special corpse for him, she arranged for it. At her workplace, she stored the small female corpse. As she began cutting apart a different corpse with her chainsaw, the boy entered the unlocked door to the disposal room and sat as he watched her. Noticing his presence, Sawyer turned around and heard Heo claim that he arrived to collect the item. Subsequently, she showed him the girl's corpse, amazing him due to the girl's lifelikeness. Commenting that he would not ask her how she acquired it, he giggled and told her that the "Doctor" would soon give the reward to her as promised. As Heo continued examining the girl, he saw that the girl's eye had a rainbow iris much like the "Earth Eye" that he had heard about. Satisfied with the appearance, the boy waved goodbye to Sawyer and declared that he would send a carrier later.[8]
Volume 4[]
On another day, while cutting up a corpse, Sawyer saw an elegantly designed key drop from the body, piquing her interest. Liking the key, she fashioned it into an earring. Later, while Sawyer went to the Yellow Flag and showed her key earring to Shenhua and Lotton, a few men broke into Sawyer's workplace to await her return since they were looking for the key. That night, Sawyer returned to her workplace upon overhearing from the Roanapur City Police that many people were looking for the key and willing to kill for it. She silently assured Shenhua that she did not need to take refuge at the latter's apartment, so Shenhua and Lotton let her be. Entering her workshop and going into the disposal room, Sawyer turned on the lights and saw the three armed men, who mockingly asked her if she found a key by chance. Noticing the key earring she wore, the leader joked that he would not have to torture her, ordering her to hand the key over.
Calmly improvising, Sawyer pressed a button on the wall which turned on the ceiling sprinklers, dousing the men in acidic sodium hydroxide. Running into the hallway, she heard two other men yelling at her, so she quickly broke open a hidden wall panel and grabbed the spare chainsaw inside. Immediately, she used it against both men, killing them and leaving. Later that night, the three police officers from the bar went to Sawyer's workplace because they learned that the original key thief was killed and sent to a cleaner. Coming across the disposal room, two of the cops discovered the acid-covered men and wondered how they would find the cleaner. At that point, their third associate informed them a woman fitting the description of Sawyer was spotted brawling in town, so they quickly left the workplace.[3]
In a succeeding story, as she was resting after a hard day's work, Sawyer woke up to two men calling for her from outside the building. Opening the door, she heard the two men give her a body bag and asked that she dispose of the corpse in a last-minute rush. Accordingly, she powered up her chainsaw and prepared to tear apart the corpse, but to her frustration, she kept getting killed in an attempt to rid of the body, being stuck in a time loop. To break the time loop, she murdered the two clients when they attempted to give her the corpse, shocking them. Sawyer then unzipped the body bag and moved the corpse into the freezer to deal with it later. Returning to her mortuary table, Sawyer rested her head and continued to sleep. At the same time, a power outage struck Roanapur, taking out the refrigeration and air conditioning. As a result, the corpse in the freezer began to deteriorate the next day, making blood gradually cover the floor. Waking up, Sawyer went outside in the afternoon and was relieved to see that she escaped the time loop, but she was unaware of the melted corpse.[9]
Volume 5[]
On one particular workday, Sawyer cut up a corpse while the air conditioning in the workplace building was out. As a result, she was covered with blood but was also sweating from the inside heat. Wanting to get home as soon as possible to take a shower, Sawyer prepared to leave when a couple of men entered the building, covering their noses upon being exposed to the stench. Saying that a corpse was dumped in front of their office, one man requested her to cut up the corpse quickly. Annoyed, Sawyer tried to close the door, as she was not accepting requests anymore at that time. As the men tried to convince her, a bomb beneath the men's van outside the workplace detonated, killing most of the men except one. The explosion also splattered a deluge of blood onto Sawyer, further annoying her. At that point, one of the two attackers killed the remaining man with a shotgun round to the head, prompting Sawyer to quickly escape the area by crawling down a manhole into the sewer system, soon defeating the pursuing attackers.[10]
Volume 6[]
One night, when a hoodlum found a drunk Revy passed out on the street, he thought it would be funny to deliver the pirate to Sawyer's workplace knowing that the cleaner would complete any job, even if it was phony. Subsequently, the man put Revy in a body bag with a note saying "Finish it" attached, then dropping it off outside the building door. After a day's worth of work, Sawyer stretched her limbs and opened the exit door. On the ground, the cleaner suddenly noticed the black body bag and the "Finish it" note. Dragging the body bag back inside, Sawyer squatted down and unzipped it to find a tied-up, half-asleep Revy inside. When Revy yawned, the cleaner immediately covered her own nose since she could smell alcohol on the pirate's breath, and the cleaner placed Revy's Sword Cutlass pistols on her work table. Examining her arms, she saw metal wrist cuffs binding them together, so she lifted the pirate out of the bag onto the tile floor. At that point, Revy's eyes opened slightly, seeing the cleaner standing over her as various meat hooks dangled from the ceiling.
Finally awake, the pirate yelled out loud and asked what was going on. Drunkenly thinking that she was still at the Yellow Flag, Revy asked for another drink and called for "four eyes," but she noticed the person whom she was talking to was Sawyer with her protective glasses and mask on, not Feng Yifei. Confused, the drooling pirate asked her who she was, remarking that she felt sick and could not move her body. When Revy requested a glass of water, Sawyer crouched down and let her gulp water from a glass. Only having a blank face for a moment, Revy began to loudly groan again, asking the cleaner what she made her drink. Still on the floor, she continued to ask Sawyer where she was, barely remembering that she was at the Yellow Flag. Facing down on her stomach, Revy noticed that her pistols were gone, demanding Sawyer to give them back. The latter grabbed her head and calmly forced her to drink a bottle of turmeric and secret medicine, then pushing Revy away onto her side. Wondering how she was still drunk, Revy mumbled that she was conscious again. As the pirate noticed the dangling meat hooks again, the cleaner turned on her chainsaw as Revy dizzily saw a glance of her.
Knowing that the person who bagged Revy was trying to play a prank, Sawyer was annoyed at the whole ordeal and spared the pirate's life. Nonetheless, she wrote the word "Stupid" on Revy's forehead. As the cleaner was washing her gloves and arms, Rock frantically entered the building and called for her. Turning around, she calmly pointed Rock to a small bed where Revy was sleeping, so the ex-salaryman rushed to her and noticed her breathing, much to his relief. Sawyer stomped the bottom of her mop onto the floor, prompting Rock to rhetorically ask if she had to clean up her mess. Seeing the cleaner's silent glare, he looked at the liquid on the nearby table and realized that she gave medicine to his coworker. Carrying Revy's arm over his shoulder, Rock thanked Sawyer and assured her that he would not tell Revy about it. After Rock exited the building, Sawyer sighed and looked at her chainsaw on the table.[1]
Volume 7[]
When a murderer couple began killing and dismembering various people throughout Roanapur, Sawyer and her assistant Choptop had received several of the dismembered corpses for disposal. While working with his teacher inside the workplace building, Choptop examined one body, claiming that there were many missing corpses lately. Talking to Sawyer, he recalled that there were five corpses with missing arms, and the previous week the corpses had missing legs and other missing appendages in recent times. He wondered if the culprit was collecting body parts, remarking that it must have been a hobby and not for business purposes. Sawyer heard him but merely remained silent in thought.[11] In a different story, one of Sawyer's cleaners was mopping up the floor of a site when Choptop came by and asked where their boss went. The man informed the punk that Sawyer returned to her workplace with a dead body, shocking Choptop since he wondered if she was skipping out on work. At her workplace, Sawyer had taken her time in disposing of a deceased elderly man who hired her to mercy kill him after being wounded.[12]
Volume 8[]
After Sawyer cut apart a corpse in her work room, she began rinsing her personal protective equipment when she noticed a piece of paper being slid under the door by a clown. Seeing that it was an advertisement for a circus in town, she opened the door but did not see the messenger because they had already run away laughing loudly. Unknown to her, Choptop had agreed to lure her to Doctor Picton's circus so that he could be freed of his financial debt to the deceased Picton once the latter's younger brother tested out Sawyer's skills against the circus troupe.[13]
