- Not to be confused with Tatiana Yakovleva.
Tatiana Novikova (Russian: Татьяна Новикова; Japanese: タチアナ・ノヴィコヴァ Tachiana Novikova) was the mother of Yevdokiya Skachkova, the ex-wife of Vasili Skachkov, and the daughter of a KGB deputy chairman. When her husband suddenly defected from the Soviet Union to the United States, her father was removed from his position in the KGB, bringing shame to her family and causing her to seek revenge against Vasili.
Appearance[]
Tatiana was a Russian woman with a skinny build, pale skin, and long blond hair. For casual wear, she kept her hair in a ponytail and a long-sleeved shirt, and for formal wear she let her hair down and wore a hairband, a light-colored frilled shirt, and a black skirt.
Personality[]
She was very proud of her family background due to their influence in Soviet politics. According to her daughter, she became very resentful and coldhearted after her husband left her. As a result, she cared more about getting revenge on her ex-husband than the wellbeing of her daughter.
Eda Initial Stage history[]
Tatiana was born into the Novikov family, a powerful nomenklatura family in the Soviet Union which produced many party members.[1] She married Vasili Skachkov, a Soviet embassy security guard who came from a civilian background.[2] On October 5, 1973, their daughter Yevdokiya Skachkova was born.[3] A little over a decade later, because of the pressure put onto him by his wife and her family due to his status, Vasili planned on defecting from the Soviet Union.[2]
The Spy Who Came in from Cold[]
In 1985 on the day that her husband was supposedly leaving for a business trip, Tatiana watched him bid goodbye to their daughter. Hearing Yevdokiya beg him twice to bring her a souvenir, she warned her daughter not to be so selfish. Not bothered, Vasili asked her what she wanted, causing Tatiana to advise him not to spoil their daughter. She then stood silently and scolded him as he promised to bring back a Barbie doll for her.[3] Soon, realizing that her husband fled the country, the KGB wanted to know where Vasili went, so Tatiana let them ask her daughter if she knew anything about his disappearance. After Yevdokiya was interrogated, she ran to her mother and cried that the men acted scary, but her mother demanded that she tell them everything she knew since everyone was looking for Vasili.[4] As a result of the scandal, Tatiana's father was removed from his KGB deputy chairman position, bringing the once renowned Novikov family into ruin. This humiliation caused her to despise her husband enough to seek revenge against him.[2]
In order to exact her revenge, Tatiana worked very hard to use her connections to get Yevdokiya into the Federal Security Service, the successor to the KGB. As an adult, her daughter was trained in hand-to-hand combat and firearms and had a job as an FSB desk worker. In the early 1990s, by the time that her ex-husband remarried and had a second child in Maryland, USA, Tatiana became gravely ill and was admitted to a hospital. When Yevdokiya visited her, she pleaded with her daughter to finally go after Vasili before she would die and kill him for destroying her. The bedridden woman also asked Yevdokiya to make him suffer before dying by killing his wife and child if he had any. Although reluctant about killing Vasili's new family, her daughter agreed to avenge her and traveled to the United States by contacting the CIA about her alleged desire to defect from the Russian Federation. Three days before the night that Yevdokiya confronted her father, Tatiana died from her illness, and the FSB relayed this news to the CIA. In turn, Eda relayed this to Yevdokiya and Vasili, the latter of whom admitted that he thought his ex-wife would be the one chasing him down. In the end, Yevdokiya could not go through with killing her father and his new family, so she returned to the Russian Federation.[4]
