Plot[]
Once Rock tells her about how he was abandoned by his bosses, Feng Yifei asks him why he did not return to his old life. Smoking a cigarette, he explains that the value he placed on his own life was simply what he hoped it was worth. Correcting himself, he states that it was not that he could not go back, he just did not want to anymore. Comparing his story to her own recent journey, Feng replies that the two of them have very similar lives. Sipping her can of beer, Feng mentions that she is from deep in the mountains even in the PRC, joking to Rock that yetis might as well exist there but she has not seen one. She then elaborates that her grandfather served in Eighth Route Army during the Chinese Civil War and thanks to his efforts, her family was able to get good connections, including her oldest of three older brothers being the 2nd Secretary of the Residents' Committee.
Rock asks her if her family had any expectations of her, making Feng rhetorically ask him what he thinks. Rock correctly assumes that they did not since she would have chosen her own path. Saying that her parents wanted her to marry some rich guy in a place like Chongqing, Feng says that she instead joined the PLA's Electronic Engineering Institute and had wandered aimlessly since until ending up in Roanapur. Curious, Rock asks her if she would have chosen a different path had she known that she would end up in Roanapur. Smiling and opening her bubbly beer, Feng slyly smiles and proclaims that she still would have come to the city of vice. Sipping her beer, she philosophizes about how her nationality, family, past, relationships and qualifications had all been taken away from her just as Rock's bosses did the same. To Rock's shock and surprise, she declares that she knows she is alive and that how she lives and dies is only something she can choose.
Smiling after slamming down her beer can, she remarks that having such freedom is truly exciting, with Rock remembering the moment that he took off his necktie and quit his salaryman job. Silent for a few seconds, Rock then reciprocates a devious smile and agrees that it is truly great. Getting off topic, Feng asks about Revy since she has been in the shower for a long time, and the two are shocked to see that she has passed out, making Rock urge Feng to get her a towel. Elsewhere in the city, Ronnie the Jaws is annoyed and disappointed to find out that Zamid Dhiyab is dead.
