History[]

El réquiem de los Desalmados[]

In Cananea, Mexico, Hotel Moscow's ally, the Guadalajara Cartel, began to fall apart after the murder of the cartel's leader, Miguel Navarro. As another consequence, various cartels throughout Northern Mexico began to fight for territory, with the Nuevo Laredo Cartel distinguishing itself from the other syndicates. With its new power, Nuevo Laredo coerced Krivchenko into ceasing business with other cartels. He had also agreed to provide firearms and money laundering through Russian financial institutions to the cartel, making Hotel Moscow appear weak.[1]

To prevent Hotel Moscow's influence from waning further, Krivchenko and Varenkov requested the help of Balalaika's Vysotniki. Accordingly, Maskaev's unit went to Mexico to fight the Nuevo Laredo Cartel's forces there, but they also fought against their powerful ally Los Soldados. Despite the victories against the cartel members, many Russians were killed as well. To prevent further bloodshed, Krivchenko and Varenkov held several meetings with Los Soldados to resolve the matter, but the cartel gangsters solely wanted revenge. Because Los Soldados would only agree to a truce on the condition that Krivchenko was given to them, he promptly fled to Roanapur for refuge.

Once he arrived in Thailand, Krivchenko and his associate met with Balalaika in her office at the Bougainvillea Trade Company building. Hearing Balalaika say that she was told the operations were initially a success, the two men explained the entire situation to her, with Krivchenko mentioning why he fled Mexico. Assessing the situation, Balalaika remarked that she should have gone there to settle the matter personally. Krivchenko replied that they could not always be shedding blood because the world of crime had entered an era of reconciliation and coexistence. Disagreeing, she asserted that Hotel Moscow was not taken seriously because they had avoided using more violence to destroy and conquer as they did before 1993. She reminded them that the Colombian Cartel was losing their seat on the Council at the next meeting, specifying that Fernando Lobos of the Nuevo Laredo Cartel would replace them.

Finishing the meeting, the three Russians agreed to prepare for the arrival of Gris el Tigres, a representative of Los Soldados who accompanied Lobos to resolve the feud. Balalaika relayed to Krivchenko that their mutual boss Slevinin ordered her to cooperate with Nuevo Laredo, proclaiming that a decision on their dispute would be made at the subsequent Council meeting the next week.[3] Some time later, the Council meeting ended sourly when Gris affirmed his desire to kill Krivchenko as a condition for truce, even threatening to take on Roanapur's mafias if they interfered. Consequently, Krivchenko had to be placed under Balalaika's protection until Slevinin made a decision on where he would stay.[4]
