The Wired Red Wild Card[]
In the mid-1990s, the German avionics company Reinbach A.G. privately contacted the People's Liberation Army about one of their hackers attempting to steal their data. As a result of Feng Yifei allowing Chinese government emails to be accessed by the Highwaymen during her failed cyberattack, Wang visited Lieutenant General Liu of the PLA in person. He informed the latter that he wanted to speak with him concerning matters of national security, putting Liu on edge. Subsequently, Wang and the MSS's 8th Bureau started an internal investigation of the PLA 2nd Department and the military intelligence service concerning their international blunder. After berating Colonel Ma, Feng's superior, Liu proposed that they had to destroy any ties between them and their shell company, Annenheim Distributions, as well as arranging Feng's murder and deeming her a traitor for her actions.[1]
Within a day, Liu briefly deflected the MSS while his department finished destroying ties with the shell company, but Ma's hired killers did not kill Feng, whose existence would incriminate the PLA. To Liu's worry, the MSS relentlessly searched through the PLA's internal documents, getting closer to exposing the 2nd Department's cover.[2]
Trivia[]
- In the Japanese version, his name erroneously combines simplified and traditional Chinese characters, resulting in his name in hanzi being spelled as «王晋詠».
